I have a mlb.tv account that I created when I was visiting Iowa from Texas. Does anyone know if there is a way to get around the blackout for cubs games. It will probably let me watch them when I go back to Texas, but I am in Iowa a lot and would like to watch them when I am on the road.

I'm pretty sure it goes by the internet server location you are using. So if you're in a hotel in Iowa using their internet connection MLB will see who the provider is and where they are located and determine if you are in a blackout zone or not.
 
which frankly is bull ****, i payed 25 bucks a month to watch the cubs, i shouldnt get blacked out. a lot of times i have to be at work, so i do both. but bam, then its blacked out. i am reconsidering my purchase :no:
 
I am also wondering about my decision to purchase. Really got this for my business travels which happen to be in the cubs apparent blackout zone.

Wondering if there is a way to spoof my actually location.
 
I've never been able to find one. Not sure if you could get on a proxy server, but I think they've sniffed that out as well.

Drives me nuts. We went to a show in Madison last year, and the bartender at the hotel logged onto his MLB account on my pc to let me watch the Cubs game.

Can get it in Madison, but not Des Moines .... thanks MLB.
 
a couple things..

1. sometimes if you connect to your work network and it originates from outside of the blackout zone you may be able to get the game. That has worked for me before.
2. If you happen to be staying in a hotel in Council Bluffs, next time stay across the river in Omaha and you won't have any problems
 
If you are a fan of any of Iowa's 6 teams that get blacked out; I would stay away from mlb.tv. I have tried to get the Braves games against Cubs/Cardinals in the past and haven't ever found away to get around the blackout.
 
I have seen people alter their IP address in order to bypass the blackout. I'm not sure how they did it but I think it was some software download.
 
Thanks! Got the proxy server to work on an anonymous server. Do you know if you can pay for a high speed proxy server?
