Mitch Mustain, freshman QB from Arkansas just was released from his scholarship. I know it is unlikely, but what are the chances of landing him? He can really play.

Don't want him. Sounds like his parents really control things. I think it was his parents decision for him to leave.

A few hours ago Mustain said he had his choice of schools narrowed down to two...neither is Universiy of Tulsa. Not sure you want him either, his mom, Beck Campbell, has said to much in the local media. She was one of the three parents who went over Houston Nutt's head and walked into Broyles office to complain about their kids playing time.

Mustain's high school coach and former Offensive Coordinator at Arkansas, Gus Malzahn, has taken a Co-Offensive Coordinator position at Universithy of Tulsa, so there was a lot of speculation and mostly wishful thinking, he was headed to Tulsa.

There is talk around NW Ark that the other Arkansas Assistant Coaches weren't too wild about Malzahn because he was a High School Head Coach before coming to the Mighty SEC. Didn't have the experience for a job that good. Some say Frank Broyles wanted Malzahn as OC because he wanted all the talented kids from Springdale (Ark) High School to go to Arkansas. Broyles thought he could bring the kids with him.

Arkansas. Have you heard anything?

?? for a couple of you. First you would rather have Bates or Arnaud rather than someone most said was the #1 QB recruit in the country last year?? Doesn't make much sense to me.

The guy isn't going to Tulsa. You don't go to a school like Tulsa when you are a player of his caliber. I agree though about his parents. The bagage that comes with him doesn't seem worth it

From what I've seen of Mustain, I'd take my chances with Arnaud and Bates.

Haha this is great. We have not seen either of those guys play and Bates hasnt even stepped foot on campus. But from what you have seen from a QB who played for a running team (who played sparingly) you would rather have these other guys. Take off the goggles guys. There is a reason this QB is so highly thought of. Brady Quinn didn't look like the best his freshman year but he is going to be a top 5 pick this year so take it for what it is worth

I can only go off what I've seen and from what I've seen, Mustain is not an elite QB. Did I say our commits were? No, but I will take my chance.

I also would rather have who is committed (literally and figuratively) to ISU rather than someone who has obviously caused public friction where he was at...Good Luck to ya buddy...anyone remember Ryan Leaf????

Wow, I think watching the bball game tonight ruined my english.

"I can only go off what I've seen and from what I've seen"

lol, yikes.

I could care less what people are rated or what star they were out of HS. Blythe and Meyer as 3 stars worked out pretty well for us. I bet Sage would have been zero or 1 star.

Besides the hype, what makes Mustain better than Arnaud or Bates then - If you are going to rip people for having an opinion at least give a comment as to why you would rather have him than these two.

With the ego he has there is no way he stoops that low.....Conf. USA?
Look for him to end up at USC. Just a hunch.

There were three of them from the OC's high school. One receiver has already transfered ... to USC.

I think USC is a good bet, and a good fit for a dumbass hothead like Mustain.

I think you pretty much summed it up (according to what I've been reading). It also said in the paper this morning that TE Cleveland has decided to stay with the Razorbacks which surprised me as I thought he'd be next to announce a transfer.

One odd thing on the news last night was the hiring of Lee from the Dallas Cowboys as the OC to replace Malzahn and that it had been in the works before Malzahn announced he was leaving for Tulsa. Makes you wonder what plans they had for Malzahn had he not left for Tulsa. They've got one STRANGE situation over here and it's likely no one may ever really know what actually happened. Bottom line, it really looks like Malzahn was just a pawn to get the Springdale players.

This kid is a good QB but he went to Arkansas because his HS coach got a job there (somewhat similar to Larry Brown conveniently hiring Danny Manning's dad as an assistant while Danny was in HS). My guess is he lands at Tulsa because that is where the old HS coach went upon leaving Arkansas a few weeks ago.

I have a feeling we won't be seeing Mitch this coming year, but his senior season he may be playing at Jack Trice when a certain southern team will be back on the schedule. There is a lot more to the story than is being reported, ranging from derogatory emails being sent from an assitant coach's computer by his personal trainer (the assitant also happens to be the HC's brother). The players were told as was the public that Gus Malzahn would be allowed to bring in his playbook, so these players all committed expecting to throw the ball 20-30 times a game, and then it ended up being 15 at the most, and the AD goes to the media and says you can't win in the SEC running the spread offense. I can't blame the parents too much since these kids were the cream of the crop (we would have wet ourselves to have signed one of them) in terms of offensive talent that they are now being told will go to waste as they won't be running the offense they signed up for and were promised in their very own living rooms. Them staying at Arkansas could literally cost them millions in NFL money due to wasted talent. Kinda like Aikman going to the Sooners. He saw that he couldn't get show his talent and got the heck out and made something for himself. Not saying Mustain is an Aikman, but same type of situation to where the square doesn't fit the circle.

If he goes to USC his parents might as well just keep there mouths shut. They may be able to tell a struggling coach like Houston Nutt what they think but when they try to tell Pete Carrol and his National Championships what to do it will be over for Mitch. Pete will just send in his next Heisman Candidate to throw the ball to all of the all americans.

Amen. And look his parents are wrong for going to the AD, I mean this isn't middle school. But the parents also did say that they would have no problem if there kid was on the bench for not being good enough, but it's the fact that they were lied to to get the kids there. It would be like you taking a job, and they told you that you were going to do one thing, and they ended up making you do something different. Wouldn't you want to go find a different job so you can do what you enjoy and your good at?

The kid is 19 years old and you guys are throwing him under the bus b/c of his stupid parents and b/c he was flat out lied to. Your also saying he doesn't look like a good QB! I'm very curious to how you came upon this w/ the 10 passes he threw a game there at Arkansas? The guy has a rocket arm, good accuracy, tall, and mobile enough to get the job done.

Why don't they start theuir own team and just build around him? Mustang Mustain deserves Tulsa.
