today proved that if you dont turn the ball over and if you make your shots, you can compete with anyone in the country...... oh yeah, and mr. jacobson can coach too.Once again, tonight's game proves that the style of ball played by the mid-majors like UNI just can't compete with the elites of the BCS conferences....oh wait, never mind.

Me thinks Mr. Jacobson just made himself a millionaire..:notworthy:

i hope the hawk fans were watching because they just met their new coach
Exactly !Athleticism is overrated if you can't play team ball and have sound fundamentals.
That's basically ISU's downfall for quite a while now. We've had athletes... but not all of them could handle the ball, make smart passes, and smart plays overall... in addition to being able to take good shots (and make them).

Keno coached for 1 year at Drake with his Dads players. His style will work anywhere his Dad won at Iowa. I don't think UNI would have had as good a record in the Big 12 but I do think they still would have gotten to the NCAA tournament.Alright i had an argument with someone already about this. What if UNI i was in the big 12 all season? Could they win with there style of play, playing the best athletes out there night in and night out? I doubt it. Another example Mac tried winning in the big 12 the way he won at Northern Iowa..... Did that work out? No. My point is say Kansas had three or four days to prepare for this game, I think they win. The NCAA Tourney is all about getting up for that one game and UNI did it and took it to kansas. Keno Davis hasnt won **** at providence, Gmac.. well hasnt done **** here. Ben jacobson, time will tell, but I think he will learn that his style of ball in the mac just like the others, wont cut it in the big conferences once he gets that job.
Usually a slow pace which relies on strong fundamental defense, not turning the ball over, and shooting the 3 well. What the hell is the MVC "style of play." Somebody, anybody, answer that question.

You just described a pretty big portion of the Big 10, and teams like Notre Dame, Pitt, etc. in the Big East.
Everyone relies on defense and not turning the ball over. And I just don't really buy the 3 point thing. Just anecdotally, UNI shot 35% as a team this year from 3...ISU shot 37% from 3. If UNI is a good 3 point shooting team, so is ISU.
That is good stat folks... However, what Iowa State doesn't do night in and night on, unlike UNI for the most part, is the other 3 parts: we would prefer to run (72.6 ppg), we don't play fundamental defense (70.4 ppg, but went up to 74.6 ppg in Big XII play), and we turn it over 13.8 times/game. Until we get that fixed, Big XII victories look pretty bleak.
To be sure, I wasn't saying ISU meets all those criterion, just that almost EVERY team trys to play good defense and limit turnovers. Those are hardly qualities unique to the MVC.
There are a few teams like Missouri possibly who don't care as much about turnovers because they press so much they think they can get extra possessions. But those teams are few and far between.
