In the past, I have found Cyclone Fanatic to be a great source of ideas for summer vacations. My family (wife and girls 12,10,8) are looking at going to Minnesota this summer for vacation. We went to Spicer several years ago so that area is an option but also like the idea of Brainerd. We are looking for either a resort or cabin for 4-5 nights. We are trying to stay on the inexpensive side as we are thinking of doing a larger vacation next year.

Any suggestions on places to stay or things to do around Brainerd would be great. Also, any suggestions on other areas of Minnesota would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Gary

Wife and I got married at Grand View Lodge. It's on the north end of Gull Lake. We go back to that area every summer. Lots of shopping, golf, water sports. They have a small water park if the weather is crappy you can still keep the kids happy.

We use VRBO.com every year for a cabin in MN. We typically stay in the Park Rapids area but they have awesome cabins all over

It's been a while for us but both Itasca State Park and Lake Bemidji State Park had some options.

I have boys, so they were interested in fishing, hiking, etc.

Because this place has family ties to my husband, plus my FIL lives on the other side of the lake from here now...

I haven't been up there for about 6 years, but I know they've renovated pretty much every cabin. It's located in Grand Rapids. Not a whole lot in the way of shopping, but quite peaceful, and good fishing off of Big Bass Lake.

I grew up in Brainerd back in the day...(class of 1984). Though, I don't recognize the hometown as much when I visit I do know Grand View Lodge is still a great place to look into for a week! Cragun's on Gull is a good place to try also. If you are looking to go fishing, 2 of my good friends are fishing guides in the summer; I can PM their names if you are interested.

A family from my hometown owns a place called Viking Bay Resort and Lodge. It's on Lake Miltona. I don't know much about, but they are on Facebook and I'm sure they have a website. Might be worth checking out.
