The
Chicago Bears are making a change at quarterback, switching to
Josh McCown after losing the last four games with
Caleb Hanie.
The Bears announced Wednesday that McCown will be the starter Sunday night when the team travels to Green Bay to face MVP candidate
Aaron Rodgers and the
Packers. He becomes the 10th starting quarterback during the Lovie Smith era, which began in 2004.
"It's just another opportunity to compete," McNown said Wednesday at a Halas Hall news conference.
Asked about facing the Packers, McCown said, "Lovie put that up there this morning about the oldest rivalry. ... I am very excited."
It will be McCown's first start since the 2007 season when he made nine starts for the Oakland Raiders.
"It's not ideal to come in this late, but as a competitor you have to get yourself up to speed and go play," McCown said. "Everyone expects you to go play and play well.
"I don't want to get too amped up because for me it is a cool story and cool moment, but I am a competitor, want to win the game."
