McCartney: Colorado Coach Embree's firing racist???

I don't think it was racist at all. Any coach would have been gone if they did what he did in 2 years. His players and fans had all given up on him.

We were really bad in the Chizik years. Colorado was way worse. Pregon could have put 100 on them without any starters playing if they would have wanted to. I'm sorry but they have no basis for argument here. I understand wanting time but there were next to 0 signs of any improvement and the roster isn't that bad. Leach won 5 games in year one with something similar.

If Embree hadn't played for Bill I wonder if he would be so outspoken about this

Well, Bill McCartney went 1-10 in his third year before he started cheating (kidding.) I guess I can see how he might think a guy should get more than two years on the job because by today's standards he'd have probably been fired back then.

Two years isn't nearly enough to turn a down program around. CU was beyond awful but they were playing tons of freshman and sophomores. Turner Gill didn't get a fair shake either. That KU program was left for dead after Mangino was shown the door. I don't think racism is in play but I would say black coaches have a shorter leash in certain situations than a white coach.

Gene Chizik won a national title two years ago. Danny Hope hasn't been awful. John L SMith is crazy (I wanted to put him in there but He destroyed a program) Charlie Weis had a great first year and was let go after year 4(?). I don't think race has anything to do with firing in most cases. You also can't say race isn't in play and then say black coaches may have a shorter leash. If you suck, you suck. Gill sucked, WIllingham sucked and Embree may have surpassed that level of suck.

Yeah. I wondered if he had a personal grudge against the AD and was just trying to make his life a little more uncomfortable.

No, Coach Mac didn't have a grudge against the AD (prior to Sunday night). Coach Mac has been very visible the last couple years and has spoken many times at CU Athletic Department events.

Happens to white coaches too. Does anyone force black coaches to take bad jobs? Charlie Strong seems to be doing well. Charlie didn't jump on the first job that was offered.

The fact is black coaches are not offered a lot of head coaching jobs. In the last 30 years there have been 41 black head coaches. 41! That's pretty terrible.

Why did Dan Hawkins get 5 years?

Program was not far removed from the Gary Barnett, um, situation and Hawkins had equity from his time as the Boise HC

Edit: I am not defending Dan Hawkins, dude is on the same level as Todd Lickliter IMO

Why did Dan Hawkins get 5 years?

In year 2, Hawkins beat OU and Nebraska before losing to Alabama in the Independence Bowl. CU was 3-0 in year 3 when he got an extention after being #21 West Virginia. Most feel he got an extention too soon, and they would be right.

Sounds familiar.

I just don't understand why Iowa State's former coach, Dan McCartney is so passionate about Colorado's HC situation?

Strange!

McCartney always hoped that Promisekeepers would become more than a thing for white guys, but it never really did. I suspect that he is once again expressing his version of "the white man's burden."
