MBB: Preseason Big XII Rankings Released, ISU #11

It's like Johnny Orr said before his first year, "we're picked last, but the great thing is if you get fourth they name you coach of the year"

It makes sense that we are picked this low, but hopefully that pre-season schedule will give this group confidence to win some games in the Big 12.

Thank you very much Wesley Johnson....difference between #11 & #4

I don't think that we would have been picked fourth with Wesley still here.

But always remember there are two sides to every story; yours, mine, and the truth.

And please also remember, KG said repeatedly, over the Summer, that Wesley wasn't that good, and he couldn't guard anyone if his life depended upon it. If that is the case then it's addition by subtraction

I miss the days when there was excitement heading into the Big XII Tournament. Now it's just praying we can win in the first round.

My favorite thing about Cyclonefanatic is watching people be bi-polar. When Wesley was wearing cardinal and gold, we dubbed him the next Scottie Pippen. Now that he is at SU, his whole game sucks. Hopefully we don't read about him someday eating a steady diet of government cheese and living in a van down by the river.

Yeah, I agree. I really think we lost a good player...would have helped a ton this year to have him....and healthy.

Enter Lucca. This kid better have what it takes to lead this team. And I do mean lead..... (I just have waited for a long time for someone to shoot the long ball with consistancy....this is what we need.)

Freshman insight: I also see Eikmeier being a great threat deep, and Buckley playing important minutes. I just want Pomlee to play D and get BOARDS.... Get us back in the Top 5 in the conference where we belong Mac....or you are going to **** the Alums off a little more. (You play at Hilton for goodness sake! WIN-)

How can K-State be ahead of us??? They lost Beasley and Walker, that was pretty much all they had.

So what if somebody thinks the Cyclones are the 11th best team in the Big 12? All McD & Co. have to do is prove them wrong...or right.

Martin's recruiting classes are ranked higher than ours, and they played a LOT better than we did last year.

Plus, we lost 35 ppg with Jiri, Rahshon, and Wesley, and we only scored 65 points a game as a team. The math really hurts us.

5 of the bottom 6 are North teams. Yikes. We really, really need to win some games this year.

There will be a lot of winnable games in the north lets hope ISU can win them. Wes will be a loss, any player that can score 25 pts a game quietly will be missed. I think there will be more team this year than in the past few years because of him leaving. There is going to be 2 or 3 real good teams and the rest will fall in behind. It will be interesting to see how spots 5-10 will end up.

Who's that guy?

I think we're going to give 'em hell this year. I like our guys and I like the type of guys McD recruits. I see us fighting in the middle of the pack and I do see the conference being down this year.

We lost wes, he was pretty much all we have, i seriously hope cyclone fans don't have very high expectations, im expecting this to be mac's worst year here. Hope im wrong

There is no way the "experts" couldn't rank us 11th. Looking at the team it is were they should be ranked. I have cautious optimism we can finish higher then that but do expect it would be silly.

I have heard this sentiment from a lot of Iowa State fans. It will be interesting to see how many season tickets we sell in our quest to maximize revenue. Is it possible that we are becoming a football school?

Heck, I just hope that he can beat UNI this year, I am tired of taking grief for that one.

It's funny how a lot of us were roundly abused on this board for thinking this team would finish 10 or higher, now the coaches do it, and it's pretty much okay with everybody.

It will be a very interesting season because IMO the 07 and 08 recruiting classes will define McD's tenure here. They will be the players that will jumpstart the program and I'm curious to see how they all look.

Does anybody realize that we essentially played last year's conference games without WJ. Think about the shots he was getting (3s) he made a fair amount of them, but that's a shot you can get anytime. He didn't rebound as well as his freshman year (2 guard and hurt). I'm not saying healthy WJ is easily replaced, but we have some guys that are fully capable of filling that role compared to last year.
