I just watched the Jeremiah George spring visit interview on Cyclones.com.
George mentions Floyd Mattison several times in the interview saying they keep in touch, etc.
I know there was a problem with Mattison. Didnt he sign with a Juco too?
Im curious if anyone knows his status or if people seriously expect him to be on campus this fall?
The guy was an absolute freak of nature. I've been real high on him for awhile and was/am excited to add him to our linebacker corps.

According to Max Emfinger's super combine results for Floyd Mattison:
"Floyd Mattison of Katy Morton Ranch, Texas is one of the Top Five Super Combine Freaks that I have seen this year or any year. Here is a Super Combine Freak who can run a 4.32 in the forty; a 38 inch vertical jump; and he can also run around a 4.0 flat in the pro-agility shuttle. He has also done an amazing 125 in the Standing Broad Jump and 28 Reps of 185 on the Bench Press which is pretty outstanding for a 200 pounder."

I want this guy at ISU.

40 yard dash times are usually BS, but vertical jumps aren't usually too far off. His 38 Vert sounds incredible. Usually a good indicator for athleticism... so maybe a 4.3 isn't tooo far out of the question...

If all of these numbers are accurate and he is 6 foot 200 lbs... then why is he considered a linebacker? Does he have a frame where he could add another 35 to 40 lbs and still retain a lot of that speed?

Just looking at his size and his numbers he looks like he would be a better safety.

He's only a freshmen, or will be a freshmen in a couple months. After a year in the weight room, he will be a linebacker size.

If he is good enough to go pro one day, I'm sure they will make him a safety.
At the college level, we'll see.

Think about this: Benton plays plenty of SAM LB in the nickel package, and he's around 200lbs. Now imagine someone faster and 10 lbs bigger. All of a sudden, they don't need to substitute on passing downs.

I believe he still needs a test score to qualify. Probably take it once or twice this Summer (whatever is allowed) and that will determine his fate.

He ran it though. It isn't an estimate. It was timed and he ran it. That isn't BS. It may be an outlier and 4.4 may be more accurate, but he was timed at that.

Bingo. I see him as that hybrid LB.
