Having transfers ready to contribute will always pose a challenge for Fred (or any coach) trying to recruit a HS kid at the same position. It is what it is and it can be a cycle that's hard to break...if he even wants to.

I don't think its about transfers it's about having good players at your position. Whether it is high school kids, Jucos or transfers. Some kids want to know they are going to play right away. Other kids want to prove they deserve to play and are willing to try and beat someone out. That's what happens when you have a good team year in and year out like Fred is doing.
Just like at Kansas and Duke and UNC, etc. good players end up on the bench because there are better ones playing.

Too bad they couldn't get Andrew White from KU if he transfers bc he would fit great into Fred's offense.

Until they change the rules regarding transfers, you may as well play to your strengths. At this point, we have a great reputation with actual proof that most transfers have thrived for us, and all played on tourney teams that finished in the top half of the league.

We're at least getting guys looks from scouts (Royce, Kane, Babb) and players are finding teams overseas when the NBA doesn't work out.

I do worry that eventually the rules regarding transfers will change, but until then, we may as well use them to our advantage.

look at some of the elite programs who wanted Kane and Royce. I'm not worried about rule changes while that's the case.

One guy I could see transferring from Kentucky that would be a great pickup is Marcus Lee. He is buried on the bench and they are bringing in Two more top ten bigs next year likely to play ahead of him.

Well that and the only rule that I see being changed is allowing a graduate transfer to play right away.

transfers should either sit a year or not. there shouldn't be different rules for grads, hardship and such. we have two sitting this year at k-state.

It's got to get the attention of possible transfers when Fred has a 2nd team all cusa player in the conversation for big 12 player of the year.

We've had Jake Anderson, Kane, Royce, Babb, Clyburn, Allen, Lucious and Booker as transfers under Fred (that have played thus far). All of them with the exception of Booker have thrived under Fred and our system. All but one have won a tournament game (Jake), and that's a big reason behind many transfers. I guess Kane hasn't technically won a tournament game yet, but we're well on our way to a top 3-5 seed.

Y U NO LOVE BOOKER!?!?!?!?!

i haven't read this whole thread but rumor at k-state is that he's waiting to see if spartans have an open scholarship.

Thought it was announced that he was still announcing this next week, just not tomorrow(Sat.)? 5 or 6 days is going to make a difference as to whether the Spartans know if they have a scholarship or not? And the rumor is what, if they don't?

No. 13 Iowa State beats Boise St. in Diamond Head final

Not an NCAA tournament game yet maybe.

Can't blame the guy. Gotta get that money.

I can. That paycheck is out there as soon as you go to the NBA. Why ruin your last chance to play for fun by following what really amounts to pocket change compared to what you will be making. Have fun in college and play where you want to play rather than following the benjamins. If injury is the concern, you can get an insurance policy for the amount of any under the table payments in college pretty cheaply.

If that is really the best environment for a player - great for them. If a player is making the choice for the wrong reasons it is really stupid.

no one down here expects him at k-state because they believe he'll go to msu. there are no rumors beyond that. we have a hard time keeping top talent in-state in every sport, sans ku hoops.
