Marquee win..

I can not believe that McDermott is in year four and still looking for his first marquee win. Last night was exactly like McDermott's first year at ISU when the 'Clones took Kansas to overtime, only to lose in the final minutes. Pollard was quick to say, "You paid for this." Us Cyclone fans were quick to assume it was the start of something special. I know Texas is one heck of a team -- it's just sad that we are all so excited that the team "proved they wanted to be there." I'm getting to the point of apathy. I need something TANGIBLE this year or I will have gone from predicting a McDermott banner in 20 years to wanting change.

Can't say that I disagree with you. But, last nights performance gave me HOPE that ISU just might get to 9 wins in the Big 12. Is that good enough to go Dancing? Not Sure but at least we are competative in the Conference.

Sounds like GMac is back as the Coach regardless of the record this Season. So the best thing to do is SIT BACK and hope this team continues to improve.

Your username kinda creeps me out. Other than that though, I understand the sentiment, but I think your point would have more traction if Texas was ranked 15-25 as opposed to #1. A tad different.

Greg has dry lips. Unfortunately licking them just makes them dry out even more. He really should look into balm during games.

What does a "marquee win" really do? I mean, I was there when Walden had his "marquee win" against Nebraska. Turns out that the win wasn't meaningful at all, since the team went right back to losing.
A steady, consistent pattern of progression and beating the teams you have a right to beat mean more to me...

I would agree with this statement. I would rather have some consistency. Knocking off better teams is just icing.

Your horribly wrong. His marquee win got him an 8 year contract extention.

The loss of scholarships and NCAA violations from the Morgan era were what got him that extension, not anything that he has done on the court.

Morgan was not there for the Walden era.

Everybody has to have their first post at some time. Why do people on this board have to be such unwelcoming d!cks to those first time posters?

Welcome aboard!

Cause it's fun. Then if they make it passed a few bad jokes they are one of the guys. Just saying.

Also yeah that Nebraska game was the one that triggered a terrible contract extension.

Welcome to CycloneFanatic Greglixhislips. Very happy to have you! One suggestion: Don't start a new thread when you don't have an original topic of conversation or your post could just as easliy go into another thread.

From the article in the close Kansas loss 4 years ago.

"KU came out primed after halftime, going on a 12-3 run in the first 4:24 of the second half to take control at 39-33."

Sound familiar?

Year 4 and all we still have is the proverbial "hope".

Some of us would like to see some results.

Unfortunately, you are probably right...it seems the results (record) really don't count for much with our current coach.

Do you also agree with the "progression" part of Tornado Man's post as well?

I would say GM has brought us quite a bit of consistency. As the original poster is pointing out the results over his past 4 years have been pretty darn consistent. Unfortunately, we seem to be missing that "progression" part.

Its hard to say. I have this sneaking suspicion we are on our way up now and we will take a mighty hit when CB and MG leave, so the progression will be hit hard. This worries me. However, some other players are starting to mature and shine a bit. Im curious what impact the new recruits will add.

It is great to see the optimism around the bball team here, but I can't help but be reminded of the football season this fall when we had that shocking game against Nebraska to go to 5-3. There were people all over this board predicting 8-4 or 9-3 and top tier bowls, maybe even a shot at the North. We went 1-3 to finish, just as I think many people would have predicted those final 4 games to go if asked at the start of the year.

The fact of the matter is we got a moral victory last night, which leaves this team with 5 "quality" losses and no quality wins. If the team that showed up last night and the crowd that showed up last night shows up every night the rest of the year, we will be fine and we will meet our goals. But why would I expect that based on one night? The last four years would be a strong indicator that this won't be the case.

I think it is just too soon to get excited about this. If we take care of Nebraska and Texas Tech this week, I'm on the bandwagon. But I won't be shocked if we come out in those two games and confirm that we are still a team that tends to play to the level of our competition.
