MLB: Marlins All-Star Pitcher Fernandez passes away

I thought it was a hoax initially. Absolutely shocking. I can't think of a more shocking death of an active player since Roberto Clemente was killed.

Not that it was more shocking, but Thurman Munson, comes to mind, but maybe that is only because I was too young, at the time, to grasp the Clemente news. Thurman's death came at the time where Sports were really starting to become a big deal for me.

This is crazy and terribly sad. Saw a rumor the Cubs were interested in him just last week and was trying to think if the Cubs had enough pieces to make a run at him, and now he's gone. That's hard to believe.

Today's game vs. the Braves is cancelled.

That sucks. He had to be my favorite outside of my Braves. Him and Freddie Freeman had such a fun rivalry. They would talk smack to each other while on the field. Freddie often raked against him and Fernandez would just shake his head at him with Freddie smirking back.

Immediately reminded me of Oscar Taveras' death.

Very sad situation

I am not a boat guy, but what were they doing at 3am?

I doubt they were actually trying to kill themselves with idiotic reckless boating but that's exactly what they did. It's a bummer for baseball cause the dude was a talented and colorful asset to the game but I cannot muster up much personal sympathy for the folks on this boat. This isn't a random tragic accident that was outside of their personal control.

Likely couldn't see the group of rocks in the middle of the night.
