Mark DeRosa

Mike Fontenot is having a pretty good spring too. He is ready to be an every day player and the Cubs recognized that and moved DeRosa while his value was still high.

Exactly. It was a great long term decision IMO.

I am actually kinda happy we traded Derosa! Good player but its time to move on to younger talent! I think all us cubs fans will be happy with fontenot's work he will do this year! Derosa is older and probably will start to decline! I loved him but I'm pumped about our lineup this year without him!

This was a perfect example of selling high on a player. DeRosa most likely won't put up the numbers he did last year. I just hate the reason Lou and Hendry gave, that the team is too right handed. Who cares which side of the plate a player hits from. I like the trade, just hate the reasoning.

DeRosa was traded to clear salary. He is a great player but not the end of the world.

End of the world? No, I agree.

But I honestly think by the end of the year, we Cubby fans are going to miss Mark far more than many are willing to admit at this point.

Bingo. DeRosa had a career year, or close to it, in 2008. With his age, his value never would have been higher. This was a move that I was very upset about at first, but I'm cool with it now. Fontenot will get the majority of the playing time at 2nd, and Miles will start against lefties.

Also, who knows, maybe Lilly was setting DeRosa up for later in the year when the two teams play. Maybe he was grooving them up there for a friend.

It wasnt actually a trade of Mark DeRosa for Milton Bradley, but thats essentially the reason D-Ro got traded to clear salary for bradley. Milton is going to put up better numbers, is a switch hitter, and i really think Fontenot is going to have a huge year getting to be an everyday guy. him and theriot also have the advantage of playing SS and 2B with eachother for a long *** time

The key indicator of whether or not Hendry managed to pull this off will be how good or bad Fontenot is. It's Fontenot that's replacing DeRosa's bat in the lineup, not Bradley. Milton was brought in to give the lineup some lefthanded power - something which was sorely lacking last season.
