Mangino Interview

Just listened to the interview and thought it was good. Excited to see change coming. Speaking of that, and pardon me if I missed it somewhere else but are we looking at a new offense with Mangino? I remember watching his teams at KU but have no clue what he ran as offense. Any insight would be appreciated.

I'm sure we'll continue to see plenty of zone read and bubble screens. My hope is that Mangino coaches the line and turns them into an effective unit. He'll be more serious about running the ball than Mess was. Keep sawing wood.

I wouldn't expect an overnight miracle. It took him about 5 years to really get rolling @ Kansas. I believe the good news is that the offense isn't as far in the toilet talent-wise as the Kansas team he took over in 2001. My hope is that we try taking the snap under center & power our way thru short yardage situations. The handoff to Woody out of shotgun hardly ever worked.

Kansas had zero talent when he got there, so it took a while for him to get players. Not the case here, we have some effective offensive guys returning, looking forward to seeing what he can do with them.

I always thought they should have cut out the middle man and just ran a direct snap to woody instead. Save the moment of exchange and he gets a full head of steam from shotgun.

I think everyone would be okay with screens if they weren't 33% of the playcalls, and they worked :twitcy:

We may see some zone read, but I doubt based upon how effective we are blocking for it is very much of it. I am guessing that he rolls the QB's out quite a bit to get the defense moving and out of position.

Part of that is because he isn't a system coach. Like Fred, he will make adjustments to what he is running based on the talents of the players that he has. He doesn't like the term spread but will spread out the defense and feels that running the ball is important to being successful.
