It essentially is a holiday in Cincinnati. Love being there for Opening Day.

This is really only good for half the teams in the league that have home games on Opening Day. they aren't going to have a national Holiday on April 3 with the Milwaukee Brewers and then a week later for the San Diego Padres.

I just went to the Open Petitions page on that whitehouse.gov site. Here's the first one that appears:

"Tell Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni that he is a Ding-Dong-Boob-Poopy and request he kill himself."

I'm trying my best to not laugh out loud at my desk.

There are about 5 different "opening days" this season, not counting teams opening on the road first. I like the idea of the petition though.

I know a lot of people that regularly take those days off work already. Seems more fitting that opening day of baseball.

In terms of sports related holidays i would put:

NCAA tournament opening weekend
Monday after the super bowl
Summer Olympics (though not feasible with it lasting weeks)
The 24 hour college basketball marathon at the start of the season

All before baseball's opening day.
