Found this article this morning regarding the LSU coaching search being down to 3 candidates, with Campbell being one of the three.

Maybe it's cause I have the most biased pair of glasses on, but Campbell leaving for LSU or USC just seems so culturally wrong against who he is as a human being. With those schools, you have to deal with bigger ego's and crazy admin with sometimes unrealistic expectations. I get those other programs have built in advantages that Iowa State will never have, but he has it made for him in Ames.

The article definitely played up aranda.

The football scoop podcast says they want a coach by Sunday. So we should know soon.

For a job of LSU's (perceived) magnitude these all seem a bit mundane. I don't see LSU fans and boosters getting excited about a Sun Belt coach, a coach with only 2 years experience (although Aranda seems most likely given his ties to the school) or a coach with a .56 winning percentage at the P5 level.

I'm surprised they're not at least name dropping finalists like Lane Kiffin or Mario Crystobel or someone with a bit more splash. I'm also constantly surprised that Campbell shows up for all these jobs but Luke Fickell does not.

You aren't wrong. All of my LSU friends want Aranda all the way. They would be very disappointed if they ended up with Campbell or Napier.

Aranda seems like the guy here...

I agree. History and a record of success. Knows the folks there, was probably the real driver behind their defense when Ed was in charge. I thought Aranda was kind of the obvious choice from day 1.

I think he just needs to decide if he wants to stay at Baylor and be big fish-small pond, or compete for national titles. Very few high level coaches are the former. But you never know. Alternately, if he wants to win 10 games a year the easy way, instead of the SEC West, he could go to USC. He would run a good program there, the brand is top notch, just less talent out there vs SEC land. To me this would be having your cake and eating it too - the challenge is 50% easier, but you would have the same level of success in terms of wins and media glory. USC is big fish - small pond, except everyone thinks you are in the big pond because USC was apparently awesome when radio was king.

WRT to CMC, I was kind of surprised CMC was a candidate, I think his stock is low right now due to the "championship" comments and ISU's season (unfair, but perception is reality). Almost feels more like he is a stalking horse, where the admin wants Aranda, and listed CMC to make the fanbase gravitate towards Aranda all the more more.

In the most hyped season ever, starting at #7 in the polls, Campbell's seat isn't even close to hot after being 6-5 through 11 games here (it shouldn't be either). He'd be fired at LSU and be firmly on the hot seat at USC if this let down happens at either of those two schools. He has it made here and I agree, the cultural fit at either of those two schools does not seem like him.

Who in the hell wants to coach at LSU. If you don't win the national championship, you are fired in two years and even if you do, you are still fired in two years.

Or you could actually win a National Championship at LSU too. If it doesn't work out, then you still get a massive buyout and still young enough to rebuild your career some place else. I could see the allure.
