LOST: Across the Sea (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

I predict it sucks as much as every other episode this season. This is like the last season of the Sopranos, doing their best to ruin a once great show.
I agree this season has sorta been a let down so far, but that's only because everyone's expectations were so high.
We still have 4 1/2 hours of show left though, plenty of time to right the ship.
I expected a few answers here and there, but I am just left with trying to remember some trivial thing that happened 4 years ago.
Debbie downer! I think it's been a great season so far. Far better than season 4 or 5 which both started out relatively weak and finished strongly. Nothing will ever beat the first two seasons, but these last four are great compared to a lot of the recycled crap we see on TV today.
Tonight will be a monumental episode, and will probably change how we see the show, similar to Flashes Before Your Eyes and The Shape of Things to Come.
couldn't disagree more. This season has been amazing. The episode about Richard's back story was my favorite Lost episode period. I've really enjoyed this season.
All right, thought up an interesting theory that explains why Locke has sort of seemed "all-knowing" (at least to a certain extent) since the beginning.
So far the theme of this show has been one side is good, one side is bad. Half and half.
We all know John Locke was paralyzed when he came to the island. We were led to believe that the island healed him, or that Jacob gave him a gift.
I believe that MiB gave him the ability to walk... he essentially took over John's legs, or half of his body, making John Locke half good (normal John) and half bad (MiB). This is how John always knew what to do and where to be in the beginning seasons (ie When he saved Jack from falling off the cliff).
I think he has been influenced by MiB from the beginning, because MiB was part of him.

Interesting theory. I'm with you on the "duality" aspect, where half is good and half is bad. How about I take it in a different direction - MiB actually did take over Christian's body (which he stated a few episodes ago) and Jacob took over Locke. Locke provides food for the survivors in Season 1. Locke saves Jack. Locke needs to find what's behind the hatch (Desmond). Locke challenges Ben Linus' beliefs. Locke is the one to tell everyone on the island that they have a purpose.
Don't forget Locke was the first character to introduce the black and white dynamic during his and Walt's backgammon game.
The Locke character has pulled a 180 this season and we know he is actually MiB, so would it be too far to say that Jacob has actually controlled or at least influenced Locke up until this season?
Awhile back when I watched Season 1 for like the 5th time...I remember when Locke went to the forest to hunt boar and he was timid. he had an encounter with smokey, and all of a sudden after that he magically knew what was about to happen always.
Yeah during the encounter with smokie he said, "I looked into the eye of the island, and what I saw was beautiful." ...or something like that.
Solid episode, but I really would have liked to see more considering there are only 3 show hours left.

Agreed. Although I think this is going to be one of those episodes that after thinking about it, it will seem better and better.
Found the answer to the Season 1 "adam and eve" mystery.
Great episode! We finally got the MIB back story we were looking for. The whole "this light is life, we have to guard it" thing was a bit cheesy but it still makes sense.
One thing to notice: We -still- haven't learned why (or if) the island/light really does need to be protected. I think this is important. I think we're going to find out that it's really not important to protect the island. Also, notice that apparently Jacob pulled that "the island is the cork" line out of his *** since the only person who knew more than him died without saying anything like that.

I liked that montage at the end with Jacob laying his "mother" and brother to rest, and the clips from the scene in season 1 where they find the skeletons in the cave. Almost like the writers going "ha! HA! See! Season one, in your face!"
The scene where it showed smokey's "birth" almost makes me think now... is MiB in the current time really Jacob's brother? Smokey, reading thoughts from people like Locke, Christian, etc. is reading thoughts from Jacob's brother and trying to use his brother's desire to leave the island so that MiB or whatever he/it is can manipulate Jacob into actually leaving and causing some chaos in the outside world.
