Don't worry...I'm enjoying the present immensely. But a glance into the future of the WBB program is full of extreme potential as the current sophomore class progresses.

22-23
If Ashley chooses to take her COVID year, it is potentially the entire team (minus Frederick) returning with more experience. I would expect noticeable improvements in Diew, Jordao, and Zingaro. Maggie would hopefully be healthy all year long and we'd have additional guard depth with Fritz and Dawkins. It would provide the option to full court press and still allow fresh legs at the end for our starting guards. This is likely a top 5 team. Even without Ashley returning, this will be a great team.

23-24
Maggie and Morgan could be COVID year super seniors. Assuming Izzy and Maggie Vick develop, we could have 3 capable upper Jr/Sr inside players and 2 top-50 recruit freshmen (Brown and Bristow) to join them. With our guards, this team will be hard to beat. By this time, Lexi and Emily will be 4th year players and able to replace the loss of Ashley's points.

24-25 - this is the year with the most potential (but lots of things would have to fall into place)
Imagine Lexi, Emily, Aubrey, and Diew as 5th year super seniors. Add 4 more capable Sophomore/Junior guards in Fritz, Dawkins, Jackson, and Kelsey Joens. It would be hard to find playing time for all of these outside players.
Our inside game would feature two seniors and two athletic sophomores. I think that by the time Izzy Zingaro is a senior, she will have developed into our best true post player since Anna Prins (or dare I say even since Angie Welle?). Izzy is a rebounding machine and we have seen flashes of her offensive skills.

One big deal for Ashley to think about is completing her degree. If I understand correctly she still has to student teach. She could still do WNBA this season and come back in the fall or she could choose to come back, student teach and play ball while starting a Masters in the spring.

What's your guess on the likelihood that Ash comes back?
I'm 70:30 that she's going pro.

No inside feedback at all on this one.
Several weeks ago I was eating at Joensy's and made a comment to Ashley's mom about hoping she comes back. Her mom said she had no idea what Ashley will decide. Maybe Ashley herself has not made a decision.

The extra year is going to leave me conflicted. Other schools are doing it so why not us, I get that, but I still do not like it as a rule. For basketball it mostly ended up being losing the NCAA tournament in 2020. It made sense at the time for something like cross country where the NCAA meets (and conference meet) IS the season but even CC rescheduled them later for spring IIRC. Some schools lost much more than others and wish the NCAA had added some sort of percentage of games qualifier to it but it was easier to go full Oprah with "Everyone Gets a Free Year!" We played a full conference slate the last three seasons so were not a team impacted that much other than losing March Madness 2020. I get they were trying to lessen the impact of COVID cancellations but they're really turned the whole roster and eligibility thing upside down across the sport.

Hopefully the Texas girl plays the 3 giving us a better shot at matching up with the teams that give us fits.
