Tampa Bay coach fired today...would Steve Loney like to come home? Would be a home run hire in my book.

That's LONEY, not Looney. Looney is more applicable to the Hok fan base.

Re: Looney is available...

It's Loney, and he was with Tampa Bay. Unless there is also a Looney with Miami that we don't know about.

Re: Looney is available...

He's probably thinking of the ex-hawk OC who was WR coach at Miami that someone suggested would be a homerun hire based on his prolific coaching jobs at Allegheny and Fordham before bringing the 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense to Iowa City.

my bad...and didn't see other thread.

Look at McCarney's record at ISU when Loney was OC and when he wasn't. McCarney's record without Loney is pathetic.

Edit: Not necessarily completely true

Likely has something to do with the fact that he really wanted the head job before and was not contacted

Wasn't Loney OC for Rosenfels at ISU? Maybe comes with Sage as QB coach? May be a stretch, but heard Sage on with Cotlar yesterday and it sounded a bit awkward at the end when Larry wished Sage well on whatever is next?

Yeah. Thats the plan.

I just don't think it's a good match any longer. I have no doubt that within a year we'd have one if the best olines and running offenses in the conference. It doesn't look like that's the path ISU wants to pursue. If you were around during most of the Loney years, we had terrible defenses and the offense had to score a ton. This wasn't a time when offenses put up the crazy numbers but they did against ISU.
