Lipsey Shoutout

I've been watching the Pacers a lot this season because of Tyrese and I see a lot of TJ McConnell in Tamin. I think he might be able to have a similar NBA career. Undersized, but plays his a** off 100% of the time. A backup who plays crunch time minutes.

Tamin is this generations version of Fred Hoiberg and I predict that by the time his career is over, he will be every bit as revered as Fred in Cyclone history. Hometown kid who got to watch some legendary Cyclone point guards while he was growing up (Monte and Haliburton) who has a chance to be every bit as good and have just as much or more success at ISU. Tamin will lead us to a Final Four (or two) by the time he graduates. Mark it down. He just has that "it" factor.

Lipsey will end up an All-American as an upperclassmen at Iowa State. I truly believe that. Was thinking of some of the most impactful college point guards who never lit up the scoring column and think Lipsey fits in that mold. Just an absolute winner and floor general. Keep recruiting and surrounding him with elite scorers.

Jacque Vaughn
Mateen Cleaves
Aaron Craft

Vaughn was the player comp that I had in mind as well. You have to be a graybeard at this point to remember him though.

Ball control, ability to find the open man, facilitating the offense to other players, protecting the ball.

So PG’s don’t play defense. They don’t shoot? They don’t make big plays? They don’t create turnovers? Those aren’t “PG skills”?

Tamin is amazing @ getting to the basket and finishing with either hand. Impressive kid.

Well technically he says he’s getting $0.00 at Texas and went there because ISU only has two starting point guards in the NBA and I assume Texas has eleven or something.
If Hunter makes to the NBA,, it won’t be as a PG.

He will absolutely be classified as a PG at the next level. You dont watch a lot of NBA ball do you? PG in the NBA doesn’t mean what it means in college. There are like 5-10 true PGs in that league. And the rest are just short shooting guards, or specialists. Most teams (especially the good ones) run offense through skilled wings and posts.

is shot-blocking a skill specific to a position?

A point guard facilitates offense for other players. About two or three on earth can do that as their primary game and also be an elite efficient scorer. Tyrese Haliburton is one of those unicorns.

In terms of creating and limiting turnovers you have to balance it with assists and points. Tyrese and Monte are both very low turnover/high turnover creation players in nba but it’s because Tyrese is generating an insane amount of assists and points with his 3 turnovers a game.

Marcus Smart (pg) is his comp, but I doubt he’ll be as good. If he was a great shooter Nate Robinson (small sg) is his comp.

Massively well done to both TJ and Lipsey last night. They figured out that he could penetrate into the defense pretty easily and that changed the game totally. Baylor started to overhelp inside to stop him, which opened things up a ton on the outside and let Ward and Osun get to the rim from the other side.

A 3 star freshman from outside the top 150 being able to run the offense the way he does is crazy and is a huge complement to both him and the staff

I don't know why people keep bringing up Hunter unless they are still a little b-hurt over him transferring.

Tamin is doing what he needs to do with the team he is on.

Hunter was exactly what they needed last year to win 22 games. They don't do that with Tamin. Not a knock.......just wouldn't have happened. Different type of player. He is not quite the defender Hunter is..........yet. And that is what they needed last year.

So enjoy Tamin for who he is and what he brings to the table and forget about someone who is no longer here.
