With swaths of guard minutes now open from Hunter's departure, I'm curious what the high end potential of our incoming freshman guards is? I know neither of them are likely to be Hunteresque top-40 talent, but from guys who've seen them play, do either have the chance to impact games on next year's team? Does Lipsey have freshman year Monte Morris type potential? I know they're totally different positions, but think of Brady Manek freshman year at OU; he was a .9303 247 composite rank, 113 in the country. King is .9289, 133 in the country. Could King have a Manek-like impact his freshman year? He seems to already have high-major body, explosiveness, and scoring potential. Or do those minutes likely get eaten by Williams and another transfer?

I would think King will play significant minutes. I don't know about Lipsey? I don't think he's Morris, but he sort of reminds me of Jacob Pullen (K-state about 10-15 years ago). With how TJ continues to put together the roster, playing time will depend on your defense.

Hunter was fun to watch but he made plenty of Frosh mistakes too. Lipsey will be similar. Maybe Lipsey will have a few more good parts around him. It’s looking like that could be the case.

But.....we're losing Hunter and it's the end of the world as we know it.

It does change our expectations for next year. With a known talent of TH now gone and not knowing what is coming in and how well that will work its not the end of the world but it will feel a little like starting over yet again next season.

I don't think replacing Hunter's freshman year production will be that difficult. Any good transfer can do that. It was the step we were all expecting him to make in the next 1-2 seasons which sucks.
While true you may be underestimating what he was worth to the team last season. He logged a ton of minutes, played really good defense and we looked lost when he wasn't on the floor.

Lipsey is considered a true point, correct? Short of a top 50 type kid coming in, any freshman's readiness to step in as a B12 lead guard will rightfully be questioned. From what I've read, Lipsey has the build to step in right away, so that's a good thing. King has a lot to tools but I'm worried about him coming in at 175# with as physical as this league is. I was kind of hoping he would have the chance to add some muscle before he was to be counted on, but circumstances change. I think he's going to be really good, but both he and Lipsey are going to take their lumps.

Tyrese had his struggles but his defense was as good as any freshman as I've seen in quite some time. That and his upside is what will be missed the most.

The leadership/anchor type player too which is really important with teams turning into such a revolving door.

Hunter staying definitely would have made projection simpler, "known" vs. "unknown." But I guess I wasn't sure how good he'd be entering 2021-22, and it seemed to go well. Not saying that'll repeat itself for next season, but maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised.

Hunter had a lot of volume with mixed success.

I could see Lipsey starting on a tournament team like Hunter, but as a low volume guy.

Watson is going to be a long athletic wing and small ball 4 we didn’t have a year ago. I think he plays.

Jacob Pullen, I appreciate that.

If Lipsey outputs to JP levels, ISU MBB will be okay.

3rd in steals in what was by far best defensive conference in nation.

Watson benefits the most from King not getting his waiver. Should be a shot at some minutes for him.

You are correct. Freshman of the Year in the toughest conference in basketball. Hopefully ISU is lucky enough to have that again next season.

That could be every season the way this NIL is going!
