Lions have worse luck than ISU

Shouldn't have been a facemask call but Lions should have knocked the ball down. Lions way........

Can't really blame it on luck when you go - what - something like a decade with Millen and then follow that up with several more years of Mayhew. And then the Ford family doesn't seem to care enough about winning to actually try to win.

Playoff game last year vs. Cowboys. Bat rule against Seahawks, and now this.

Ummm.... when you grab the facemask, that's a facemask penalty. How do you figure it wasn't?

No dog in this fight(I'm not a fan of any NFC North team), but the Pack got quite lucky on that penalty. His hand brushed the facemask, he didn't even grasp, or seem to catch onto his facemask in anyway. Because of the way Rodgers fell I can see why the ref thought he needed to call it, but after seeing on replay it was a bad break for the Lions.

That being said the Lions had a lot of opportunities to put GB away tonight ahead of that penalty, especially with a patchwork offensive line, and couldn't seem to do it.

Exactly. I'm floored people are even debating this. He touched the facemask, the helmet moved. Its a facemask.

According to the rules, that was not a facemask.

GRASPING FACEMASK Article 5 No player shall twist, turn, or pull the facemask of an opponent in any direction. Penalty: For twisting, turning, or pulling the mask: Loss of 15 yards. A personal foul. The player may be disqualified if the action is judged by the official(s) to be of a flagrant nature. A.R. 12.12 Third-and-10 on A30. Runner A1 runs to the A33, where he is tackled by B1, who incidentally grasps A1’s facemask on the tackle, but it is not a twist, turn, or pull. Ruling: A’s ball, fourth-and-seven, on A33. No Foul.

I'm a Packer fan and I'm even willing to admit that was no face mask. He never grasped the face mask and his palm didn't turn Rodgers head, he was just tucking his head as he fell. It may have been a horse collar though because that's what he was tugging, but certainly not the face mask.

Plus, don't be a dummy and go after the QB high when you darn well the ball has been released. Pretty sloppy play IMO.

Agreed Lions killed themselves with bad decisions.

Going high on a sliding QB, having everybody behind the packers receivers on a Hail Mary, not having a body on a guy streaking into the end zone. But let's not act like this was a cut and dry facemask, it will be pretty hotly debated over the next few days I would guess.

Also I agree that the lions owe us on our copyright of that kind of finish. The ref screw job in combination with an absolute miracle play is an ISU classic.

The helmet is turning, its a penalty.
