Any places on the way to and in Memphis that elementary school age kids would like?

I know that Memphis has a zoo (no pandas anymore). Any other things they have to visit?

Better to go thru KC or St Louis on the drive?

Any other things to consider?

TIA

I'd go through St. Louis.

Not on the way, but as an 8 year old 35 years ago, I thought that Graceland was the most amazing home I'd ever seen. Probably not as impressive to kids these days and definitely wasn't impressive when I was 35.

Do they drink?

Joke. The civil rights museum is a must.
It has some really intense parts, (and areas where they prefer you remain silent/quiet, so I’d suggest only if parents are prepared, and know the kids could handle it.

Thank you for starting this thread! if people can also share good things to do with little kids for bowl festivities.
-Parade on Thursday
-Pep rally Thursday
-Anything Friday morning before the game?

If it’s warm, Memphis has a great zoo. There’s also a great children’s museum close to the liberty bowl. There’s another museum not far that’s more natural history focused. It used to be called the Pink Palace, I’ll find out what they changed the name to, and post here.

If you’re staying down town the bass pro shop is cool. The largest free standing elevator takes you up to an observation deck and the views are amazing.

Kids love Bar-b-q. And kids love pool tables. They'll love Memphis.

In St. Louis...

The Gateway Arch
St. Louis Zoo
City Museum
Science museum as well. (Which might be called city museum now?)

Chase park plaza hotel and Hilton Union Station are cool hotels and union station will have the Polar express light show every hour right now.

We have been to Memphis with our kids of a variety of ages.

The kid that loves his guitar had to go to the Fender store.

All of them learned a lot at the Lorraine Motel and National Civil Rights Museum.

They all love bbq, Commissary was their favorite.

We took them to their first NBA game there.

One of the older boys who was an ISU student at the time and in various university band groups had to go to parade and various pep rallies for his friends in the varsity marching band.

Will echo suggestions of Arch, zoo, and city museum in St. Louis. Some of my kids interested in architecture enjoyed the Basilica in St. Louis.

My younger ones were in elementary when we went. I have a 10 year spread between oldest and youngest of five boys.

All kids like donuts. Gibson's Donuts are excellent. There is often a line no matter the time of day.
Memphis local here. Hubby says there’s a new place that rivals Gibson’s. Midtown donuts is on Union (the Peabody sits on Union downtown). I’ve not tried them, but we are die hard Gibson’s fans, and he likes Midtown now.
