NBA: Lebron Would Entertain European Offers

I think basketball salaries are going to get as bad as soccer over there, so we may see quite a few players ditching the NBA for Europe

If LeBron is serious about Europe, David Stern would just pull a Supersonics and move LB's team to the desired location. The NBA would not be able to recover from that loss.

LeBron is going to New York...the Knicks are going to pay HUGE money to get a superstar in New York. New York is a huge market and had no marketable NBA Superstar.

I disagree, I don't see Lebron leaving Cleveland. He is a star there, he has always lived their. So close to Akron. I just hope the Cav's make a competitive offer to get the job done.

well, that's sort of the point ... the Euros don't have a salary cap so moving a team over there wouldn't work without some sort of exemption.

Maybe a "Buy LeBron, Get an NBA team FREE!" sort of deal.

An NBA team, with the salary cap, can only pay about 20 million a year to a single player. Europeans have no salary cap, and could offer as much as it would take to lure him over there.

But....it's not gonna happen.

There is no way you could have a Euro NBA team. I mean the travel would be terrible and they would never sign any free agents because of that. A west coast roadtrip from Barcelona would be brutal.

And yes, LeBron is going to New York. It's pretty much a done deal in my opinion.

Didn't he say he would entertain the option at 50 mil a year? That's 2.5 times the amount he is going to get in the US. Of course he would think about that.

I am NOT a Knicks fan and could care less about the New York Market, however I am quoting what I have heard on ESPN radio and other sources. They have said that New York is going to make a serious bid to get Lebron to NY.

If it is "only about the money" then I think it would be hard for Cleveland to compete with NY. (I would like to see Lebron stay in Cleveland)

Nah, just 1 flight back and forth ... 41 game road trip followed by a 41 game homestand before the playoffs!!!

I think this all started with him and Kobe asking each other how much it would take for them to go over and play in Milan, Italy or something.

Sure, everyone has a price. Pay me more money, ill go do my job over in Europe too. Especially the Euro blowing the dollar away. Plus they wouldnt have to pay taxes on it in the US.

The only thing is, the endorsement money might not be as much. Sure they'd get plenty form European companies, but Lebron might make 50mil a year in advertising here.

I don't know, I think they may get MORE in endorsements over there... Tony Parker makes more in endorsements in Europe than he does over here. I think Kobe already has a bunch of European endorsement deals over there too...

I agree, his marketing potential in Europe could be huge.

Yeah. What's more American that Pao Gasol, Tony Parker, and Steve Nash playing in the NBA?
