Looking to buy a laptop for my 11 year old son. Needs to have basics; wifi, MS Office, etc. And ideas on best deals out there?

Dell and HP are the most bang for your buck IMO.. if you want something nice and easy to use, I'd actually suggest a Mac, but they are pretty pricey.

Go with an Acer Aspire One netbook unless he is looking to do a lot of gaming.

I'd recommend trying to find a used or new-old-stock laptop with Windows XP. Vista is complete garbage and the older one with XP will be faster.

I have an asus eee pc. I have been very happy with it. The keyboard hasnt been that tough to get used to and I have big fingers. I loved the battery life on it, when I go somewhere I don't have to bring the power cord at all, that alone is worth it.

Here's a better question, and I'm surprised no one has brought this up yet....

Why does an 11 year need his own laptop? :skeptical::confused:

Buy him a basketball and a driveway hoop set-up instead?

Not to become some athletic phenom or anything, just to get him outside away from computers and video games?

If he really needs a laptop - buy a used unit and install Ubuntu. It's not a good gaming rig but will do anything on the internet that is required for learning. Ubuntu comes with Open Office for free.
