Lanning has a lot to learn

Lanning apparently lacks the ability to put touch on his passes. Seems like he makes the throws he has to put some arm into. Also needs to get in tune with his receivers. If he has just a little better ball placement he has a great game.

That's the optimistic part. Those things can be learned. Now of the receivers would catch the ball..and the oc would actually call plays that use our good receivers..

I agree that he needs to work on using touch, but his ability to give the reciever a chance to catch the ball is something that can't be overlooked. I'm a big fan of him throwing to his tall receivers in single coverage. All across college football, you see teams doing this because it makes sense. We've not done that until Lanning stepped in.

The guy that's started 2 college football games in his life still has things to learn? Tell me more.

Rhoads trying to establish 'the run' by rushing Mike Warren up the middle on 1st down for 1 yard was maddening, especially after the 50th attempt

the screens drive me nuts. The jet sweeps. OU was just too fast

Sure JL does, when you see more of him, you realize why Mangino was reluctant to play him sooner. Don't get me wrong, he bring more to the table than Sam but he has some things to work on. The positive is that even when he isn't making the right type of throw, he's usually throwing it to the right (open) guy.

He's been practicing with the 1s for what, 12 or so days now? He makes some mistakes that may be jitters, may be inexperience, may be dumb. I'd guess no other QB in ISU history and few around the country have faced the teams he has/will face in their first 5 starts. There will be growing pains for the kid but I like his potential. I'm excited to see what he can do after he has all spring, summer, and fall camp to get in synch with his receivers.

Step away from the ledge people. He's young and inexperienced not too mention this was his second start and it was against the best team in our conference IMO. Lanning will rebound from this performance.

I have seen a lot more experienced ISU QB's do worse in Norman, against teams not as good as this OU team, than Lanning did yesterday. This year's OU team is as strong a defense as we will play all year.

Lanning will be a good QB for us for the next two years as he continues to figure out how to play at the speed required in the Big 12. I am looking forward to watching him get better.

I have no idea how OU lost to Texas!

He still gives us the best chance to win. He's started two games against two college football heavyweights, let's be patient and enjoy his improvement for the next couple of years.

All of these. Not saying that Warren isn't good, because he is, but when you basically run the same play every time on first down it gets pretty easy to defend. In addition the Sooners were absolutely selling out to stop Warren, and ISU rarely took advantage of that by throwing over the middle or running the QB. Lanning should have had at least 10 more keepers. He also needs to learn when to get out of the pocket. Last night was a train wreck in so many ways. Lanning was not great or even good, but there were a lot of others that played a lot worse.

Everybody at ISU has a lot to learn. Learning should be a lifetime skill. If you are not learning, you are dying. Women should be paid the same as men FOR DOING THE SAME JOB!!! Strong women are not welcome at the UI Athletic Department. Life should be fair. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Those extra weeks of practice before the Liberty Bowl really helped the program. A stitch in time saves nine. Seth Rogan makes drug jokes.

I agree with, none, some, many or all of these things. Can't quite figure it out.

Brett Meyer was a good quarterback at Iowa State because he was smart enough to throw the ball to Blythe a lot. Lanning needs to target Lazard way more. We need way more plays designed to throw the ball and let Lazard go up and get it.

The positive is that's all normal for young QB's, and he has the rest of the year and the off season to get better and ready for next year when most of the key players return as well.

Really surprised at how many people are surprised that we got whooped in Norman. Duh.

As for Lanning, he wasn't great by any means, but our receivers did him no favors. I counted 3 dropped passes that would have resulted in first downs and 1 dropped TD.

This. He seems like a guy who could win some games with the right talent around him. I don't think he's the future star that say Randy Petersen thinks he is, but someone who could be above average at worst.
