I would still like to see Kene get at least 5-6 touches a game. He may still be dealing with some lateral movement issues. The kicker took him down pretty easy on that kick return. Thought maybe he was gone there.

I figured he'd get the Freshman their 4 games then shut one of them down for a redshirt but CMC might think if he can hold off Ohio St on our RB comitt it might be better for everyone to save their RS for any future medical need.

I don't want to sound negative, but I'm really disappointed in this position group. I expected so much more out of what we have. Maybe DM had us all spoiled, but as of right now we dont have one back on our roster that can make a LB or safety miss in the hole. They all go down first contact. I do think Johnnie is good when the play is blocked well and he can get to next level; however if it's not he wont break any tackles. The 2 freshman both run like they are still in high school. They both run high, and try to run over LBs in the hole as if they are still the biggest kids on the field, hence Brocks fumble on Saturday. Croney is ok. Kene has no moves at all but because of sheer speed is the only one that can break arms tackles, but he cant stay healthy. I know our offensive line should be way better by now, but so should our RBs
I like Brock more than Hall right now, but neither are acclimated to the speed of the game quite yet. And we're going to see Croney in pass blocking situations all year. Can't really trust any of the other four in that area.
If I was a running back recruit I would want to come to Iowa State right now. I think it might be more of an offensive line problem than a running back. Maybe a little if both
I feel you but i'm sure if the problem is with the RB's or sometimes play calling and sometimes Purdy's choices. So many situations like 2nd & 8 or 2nd & 10 when I'm hoping to run the ball, or throw a short screen. Too many times we end up 3rd & long. In the 1st half against TCU I don't remember us running between the tackles at all. So glad we have the TEs and receivers to go to but it doesn't seem like our identity is being developed like I expected. Last year sometimes it felt like run ad nauseum, but this year I'm wanting to see more run blocking, more rushing, more experience to pave the way for the second part of the season. I remember announcer in Baylor game made a comment wondering about some of the play calling as well, i think related to this. Sometimes I'm puzzled by it but I'm not savy with reading formations on D.
Gotta love Purdy's ability to scamper and make tough throws but I think he has lots of room to grow with some choices both in rpo and picking up open receivers. Can't wait to see him as a Jr, Sr.. He's going to be so good.
These are just theories of a non-expert. Happy to hear a different view or confirmation of what i'm seeing.
Just having someone that is out there consistently seemed to help yesterday and I think Lang found the timing and rhythm with that many snaps and touches. I also thought they seemed to stick with the run game yesterday even though it wasn't that available via the RBs. You can keep plugging away even at 3-4 yards and it keeps the defense invested inside.
I thought manning called a great game offensively and he has earned my faith in him as a great OC. We struggle to run the ball in certain games but we are good enough passing the ball to keep putting points on the board.

One thing CMC seems to do really well is find a way for many people on the roster to contribute. With our current stable of receivers it is tough for Landon to get many plays but that call to him was absolutely perfect.
I think Landon is pretty much like Kene. Does have great speed, but not a lot of moves. Looked like if he could have cut to the inside he might have gotten a TD on that play. No doubt the kid can fly and CMC is trying to find a way to get him on the field.
Was too bad Brock fumbled, I thought he looked promising, but he will be banished to the pine for a while after that.
I'm glad they seem to have settled on Lang as the premier back; he's been the best all year. Kene has been good too, but just never seems to be fully healthy.
I noticed they put Croney in on passing situations, which I was happy to see. I know a lot are down on him, but he still has a lot of value as a blocker.

Is it 2018? This offensive line, especially when Newell is back, is pretty good, barring the Baylor collapse. This trope that our running problems are because the line is bad are getting really tiredness
