This is where the Maui Invitational takes place. We were there the last time ISU played (2018, I think?). Beautiful little city. There is a 150 year old Banyan tree in the heart of the downtown that we visited often while there. It takes up most of a city block. It appears to be destroyed. :(

Absolutely devastating. I said in another thread Lahaina and Kanapaali Beach are some of my favorite places on the planet. I was just there in April. if anyone sees any legit GoFundMes or other places to donate to recovery please post here (as I will too)

Wow, that is awful. I was right there. So sad. The facility is kinda on its own between the city and the resorts, hopefully it survived.

The last time Mrs. Velo and I were on Maui probably 10 or more years ago the hills above Lahaina had a small wildfire burning. I wonder how often this happens. This is, afterall, the dry side of the island.

Too bad about Lahaina. A lot of history there.

Depressing, where we were last time we went to Hawaii.

From what I have seen the actual location looks ok.

I mean the building is still up (white large building on the left), for now, but everything around it is so gone that I doubt you can have the tournament. I know the major hotels would be to the left/north of this but hard to see how they could do it

The dock from those pictures is where we took a deep sea fishing tour out of in 2018. It's probably 3 or so miles south of the civic center. The Lahaina Heritage Museum and that tree being destroyed sucks (on top of everything of course).

Damn, the house we stayed in and were going to try and book next year is somewhere on the right edge of that frame.

Glad to see that! I was worrying about that ancient banyan on the strip in Lahaina.

Love Lahaina and Maui in general, stayed there on our honeymoon and later came back again. So bummed to see this fire and all the damage.

My sister is trapped there. Left on a Road to Hanna tour yesterday and haven't been able to return to their resort since. Their tour guide got them his sister's classroom at the elementary school to sleep in last night. They are staying in a motel in nearby Kuhuli tonight. Many people are sleeping in their rental cars as resorts have been ordered to evacuate. Trying to get a flight back to the mainland on Saturday and not sure if they will get back to the resort before then, but unlikely.

I saw southwest is adding flights, not sure on other airlines, to evacuate Maui basically.

They are OK, they have a plan now. Just nerve wracking for them. She said the local tour outfits are working overtime to accommodate as many people in any way that they can.

Man, this sucks. We love Maui and Lahaina is our favorite place to stay there. Not as windy as Kaanapali, not as ritzy as Wailea. Calm ocean and plenty of bars and restaurants. Spent plenty of time on Front St and it sounds like that's gone. Also loved hitting up that Safeway there for groceries.
