5. Iowa State. Wednesday's loss at Texas Tech was one of the worst by any Division I team this season. The Cyclones scored a season-low 51 points and shot 35.3 percent against one of the Big 12's worst teams. They were also outrebounded. With K-State coming to town Saturday, Fred Hoiberg's squad had better turn things around in a hurry.

Plain and simple, this is the best way to sum it up. Our "effort" on Wednesday was as poor as it's been in a few years. I don't know if we were looking ahead to Saturday and thought we'd go down there and roll T. Tech without showing up, but it was ugly.

Hoiberg better start utilizing his timeouts in the necessary situations. I can't even count how many times he should have used them in the Kansas, West Virginia, and Tech games. He has to stop runs or droughts and having 3 or 4 timeouts at the end of the game isn't the way to do it. I put it on the entire coaching staff, as the assistants (TJ) should be chirping in his ear if the other team goes on a run or we seem "out of sync". Bill Self does it repeatedly if he feels his team doesn't know what's going on or the other team goes on a run. I know Fred is learning learning, but it's time to grow up and call a timeout when the other team goes on a 9-0 run. We better be ready tomorrow or K-State will run us out of our own gym and the season will be in jeopardy. We have won 17 in a row at home. Buck up Clones and get a WIN!!!
 
I'll be wearing my lucky OSU 2011 hat to the game on Saturday so we should be good for the W.
 
Huggins did an excellent job against us of calling timeouts early in the second half to try to get his team out of a funk, and it eventually worked.
 
You could see Fred was sitting on 4 timeouts even when we were not doing so well midway in the second half

Couldn't disagree more with most of what you said. We had 11 turnovers and gave up 56 points, which isn't indicative of being lazy with the ball, poor defense, or lack of effort. We weren't hitting outside, pure and simple, and give some credit to TT for pushing us out farther from the 3 point line. Niang is our only inside threat, and he was in foul trouble a lot of the game. We need a lot more help from Gibson and Booker inside, and we're going to be too dependent on hitting 3's until we get it.
 
It looked like we were coming out the second half hot against tech then all of the sudden it seemed we got comfortable with a small lead and then got lazy again. Sometimes our team plays too much like an NBA team and gets too comfortable then lets the opponent get back into it
 
We'd probably be undefeated with proper time out usage by Fred. That's the only real issue I've seen all season with this team. Time outs.
 
The biggest lack of effort was when going after offensive rebounds. Its not like Tech made big run and forced CFH to us a timeout. In close games it is nice to have a TO or 2 late. Bruce Webber used all his up with 4 mins left in the game vs Kansas, he needed one back at the the end of the game.

Getting outrebounded by a team that is much smaller and more "youthful" is embarrassing. Niang is not our "only" outside threat. He's barely an outside threat, shooting 31.4% from 3s. Tyrus (43.8%), Ejim (41.9%), Lucious (36.2%), Babb(31.8%), then Niang (31.4%). Clueless
Bottom line is we got outplayed, outhustled, and we continue to play to the level of our competition. Seems to be a reoccurring theme this year. We should have won @ Kansas (if Fred utilizes timeouts at the end and fouls), we sneak by against West Virginia at home (after blowing an 18-point with 9:04 left in 2nd half), barely beat Yale after being down at half. We lack "effort" and let other teams delegate how we play.

We must learn to play our own game and make other teams adapt to our style, up tempo and push the ball, not relying on the "3" so much. Living and dying by the 3 will only allow us an early exit in the NCAA tourney again this year, if we make it. Lose tomorrow and chances fade dramatically.

We will make it, and I think history will tell you teams that can hit the three oftentimes go deep in the tournament and upset some great teams along the way.
 
I emailed jp, this guy should be our coach, he knows when timeouts should be called. I am blown away by his insight. Fred ******* sucks no way around it, that McDermott guy had a book full of plays and a roster full of NBA guys, I wish we had that guy back, I loved his style of play, coaching ability and most of all his propensity to ******* suck on game day. Fred obviously doesn't know how to coach, jp hiring him has been an epic failure, we will never ever get to the NCAA tournament again as long as I live. I am burning my season tickets.

Very evident....7-0 run and that was it for the half.

He may also have been our only outside threat in the last game...Tyrus was shooting blanks...

When you cannot shoot from the outside, you should go try something different.

Tech never went on a run (I don't know if they're capable of that). Why would we call a time out, that only benefits the other team when we are the high-scoring team that can score in droves once we get it going. We never got in a rhythm on offense and I think a lot of credit goes to Tech for that, imo calling time outs wouldn't have helped us.
