While, it's definitely not a bad choice, I believe part of it was a life-time acheivement award. If you look at this year only, I don't see how he earned it over Chris Paul. Kobe's cast is better than Paul's. Seriously, I didn't even realize New Orleans had a basketball team until I started following Chris Paul. What does everyone think?

Well, since I really can't stand Kobe or the Lakers, I would be inclined to agree with you. Paul had an outstanding season with less support. Who was more valuable to his team this year, Kobe or Chris Paul? No brainer if you ask me.
It's a regular season award, and Kobe led his team past Paul's. No one was saying that the Lakers had a good cast prior to the season. I realize that they added Gasol, but they also lost Bynum.

I would argue that Paul does not have a bad supporting cast. David West is an all-star, Peja is considered to be one of the best tree point shooters in the league and has been for awhile, and Tyson Chandler is on Team USA. So it's not like Paul is carrying a bunch of scrubs.
Paul's play dropped off over last 1.5 weeks of the season when the conference title was on the line and NO's to lose. Kobe maintained his high level of play, and the Lakers took the conference. IMO, that was the deciding factor.
Chris Paul did will not win the MVP for one reason, the Hornet's fan are horrible at doing the MVP chant. I know they don't have much experience at it but honestly, did anybody hear how pathetic it sounded during the end of the game last night? No unison at at all.
First, if you watched the Lakers with any regularity, you would understand the error of your statement. If Kobe had left mid-season to have finger surgery, The Lakers don't make the playoffs. Kobe is every bit as valuable to the Lakers as Chris Paul is to the Hornets.
Secondly, the league MVP award is not an award for which player is most valuable to his respective team.

So how can you say that "no way he is more valuable to his team than CP3 was"? I think it is pretty even.
Valuable? Kobe was such a baby last summer about wanting to be traded. One day he was like "get me out of here," the next day he goes on Dan Patrick and says he loves being a laker. Kobe and Garnett were in the same boat. Garnett did the whole trading thing like a man, Kobe whined like a little baby. I really have no beef with Kobe's playing this season, but my opinion is Chris Paul deserved it more.
For me it's not as much about the stats as it is that I believe the Hornets don't even make the playoffs without CP, let alone #2 seed in the West. CP had a good supporting cast, but no where near the Lakers.
I love watching Kobe play but I think he's a douche. I like Chris Paul. Most people seem to like Chris Paul, and I think that's a big part of the argument. They both did an outstanding job and they'll both be 1st teamers. The MVP doesn't change that. Hopefully Paul will get a chance to knock the Lakers out next round. That would be awesome.
And what at all does that have to do with winning the season MVP award? Had Kobe not whined like a baby last summer, he'd be sitting at home watching the playoffs on TV, along with his teammates Kwame Brown and Smush Parker.
