Who owns the Kmart lot? With the added traffic/parking this weekend they should open up that lot instead of towing. $20-$30 a spot. Would make a killing.

That has nothing to do with who owns the real estate there.
It’s looks like an investment group out of California owns it. If someone wanted to make some money they’d contact them and offer to split the gate with them on a % for coordinating the parking on gameday.
I’m guessing the athletic department is working on some parking alternatives like this or other places in Ames.
I heard they are letting Hawkeye fans park there for free

Good call. Few things say "Hawkeye" better than K-Mart, open or closed.

The owners of that property have not been concerned about short-term returns for a long time.
It’s my understand there are new owners. Perhaps they feel different.
I worked at that Kmart for about 8 months my senior year. There was 1 cute girl that worked there. She was like, 21 and married, but I flirted with her anyway.

Tell the Hawks their seats are in section K. Probably get a whole bunch sitting there at the mart.
Better yet have a kid standing there and charging hawk fans 10 dollars to park and then have those rickshaws lined up to take them to Trice. At kickoff, call the parking authority and tell them there is a bunch of illegally parked cars there. No cyclone fans there because you had the kids tell them to park elsewhere.
It opens Friday night at 5:30 and closes at midnight. Then it reopens Saturday. I don't know what time it opens Saturday honestly. As mentioned on here, they are going to have to open the lots earlier this game due to Gameday kicking off at 8 and 6 hours before game time being 9am. People will need a place to park.
I predict all of the lots will open at 5 AM. Public and reserved.
Funny you say that, cause we were talking about that last night. With this game being a big game and then throwing Gameday on top of it, they will be doing things differently this week. Hopefully they announce it sooner, rather than later, to allow people to plan accordingly. The first game was a nightmare cause they didn't announce how they were going to do Vet Med this year.
That would seem great for Squawks compared to game day parking in Iowa City. Only having walk a half hour would feel like a home game.
Somebody that is registered at hawkeye report, please go there and tell them the Kmart parking lot.
