Keep Coach McDermott!

Question for the OP - How hard were you laughing when you typed this or how much had you drank? Do you enjoy train wrecks and look for natural disasters as entertainment? GMAC is a hell of a person and we all hoped for the best, but there is WAY TOO MUCH evidence showing this isn't happening!!!

This certainly is the fan PERCEPTION, but judging by all the defections for the last 4 years it may not be REALITY.

Why would you believe anything these two idiots say about Iowa State or even listen to them? The only time I would even think of listening is when CDub is hosting and one or preferably both are gone!

Based on your reasoning, at this point wouldn't it be best to get rid of our basketball program, since it is a complete joke at this point, and focus ALL revenue on football?

FTR, Larry Eustachy set us up for failure after the back to back big XII titles behind the great guard play of Jamaal Tinsley. We had a losing record after that and barely a .500 season after that. Then came the partying after games with college coeds.

Morgan had to be hired to keep the recruiting class intact. But in all honesty we were just a farm team for streetballers to do what they wanted. We had a couple decent seasons behind the great guard play of Stinson and Blalock. They left and things have been downhill ever since.

We have been very, very average in a tough Big XII. Do I want better? Most definitely. Do I feel we have underachieved? Definitely, this year. GMac is on the hot seat. No doubt. But I would let it play out and see what happens. If we really suck we can make a change then. I don't see the real downside in waiting. It would actually be worse if we pulled the plug and panicked.

IF we are going to be as bad as many think, wouldn't it make sense to let Coach M coach the pot he made? Any new coach would not even have a chance to bring in ANY of his own players. AND if he's as bad as some say, he may well be more willing to negioate out after that kind of a season.
No. The longer we let this joke go on it is painfully obvious that it will take even longer for us to be respectable under a new coach.

Did you go to any of the last few games??? All of Hilton Atmosphere was dead.. Forget about the magic...

I only partially agree here. Hilton Magic isn't dead, it's dormant. Once we get a new, enthusiastic coaching staff to turn this thing around, Hilton Magic will back in full force and be here as long as that old Cement Barn stands...

...sooner you pull the plug the better JP.:dull:

Actually, despite the partying (which was devastating for us) Larry had us primed for another run with Stinson and Blalock.

Dont you guys get it lol Ketelmeister is Greg M. He joined CF to try and save his job, pathetic if you ask me but if thats what he wants to do fine. Reminds me of Al Gore on southpark lol

the one thing i am afraid of is that everyone is just so negative about next year that nobody will show up to support the team and the hilton atmosphere will be gone.

I would bet my life on it.

I agree that firing Greg this year is a terrible idea. We're 24 hours away from signing day. He's here next year and anything else is bad idea. We can't fire a guy at this point, we'll lose all the recruits and no coach will want to come in with 6 scholarship players, 4 of them being seniors and no recruiting class.

That said if he has the type of year everybody and their dog will be expecting next season he will be gone and everybody knows it. That's where we're at right now. I've made peace with it and everybody else should too.

One interesting thing about next year will be if we go 0-3 in the Big 4, lose to Creighton and Cal, and lose a couple to "scrub" teams in December, does Greg get canned by January and we see a Nick Nurse interim head coach? That would be interesting at least.

the one thing i am afraid of is that everyone is just so negative about next year that nobody will show up to support the team and the hilton atmosphere will be gone.

This is a near certainty. Best to make peace with that as well.

I am curious why daily this board bashes the program.
The University spoke about the program 30 days ago. End of story.
Noone has hinted at "lame duck" or 1 year.
Am I happy with the last 4 years results? Absolutely not. Should anyone be, absolutely not. Is ther scrutiny in place, certainly.
I am just curious if all the negative posters take the time to consider:
1. There is a lot of effort being made by qualified people to improve the situation
2. Assistant coaches changing jobs is not uncommon.
3. Players may believe in the leadership in place, may like ISU, may like the existing teammates, may want to play int he Big 12, may like the opportunity to get playing time early in their carrer, and desire to sign up, but then they daily read the speculative b.s. on sites like this and question themselves.
4. Everyone thought Buckley would leave already last year. Everyone had to believe that Brackins and Gilstrap were leaving, regardless.
5. The program in '10/'11 will have the returning players, returning staff plus 2 additions, 1 that seems to be an excellent fit, and the new players, two of which we know and have been high on since fall until it became popular to be negative, and unknowns that we speculate about, and we are left to embrace it or be quiet and go support someone else.

I can be alone, and that is fine. But why not support the positive, and if you cannot, go elsewhere, but let people do their jobs.

As I reread, I see alot of opportunity for my message to be dissected by the negative. Of course, the above is my opinion only, and you are not paying for it, so value it as you see fit.

Let's face the facts, we have a highly sought after coach in Greg McDermott. He will be our coach next year, and with success, for several years to come. To suggest we change coaches now flies in the face of logic.
-recruiting is done for the year
-after next season, a huge recruiting class will be available to recruit
-financial considerations point toward the need to keep Coach
-time to support the Coach and look forward to next year.
It's too early to be smoking crack.

So if you love ISU be quiet and leave? I appreciate your wanting to support, but life is full of final decisions changing.

Solid post. I disagree 100%, but I respect your approach and demeanor.
