The First Team All-State tailback from Webster City made quite a performance at the track meet yesterday. 11.4 in the 100, Harrington from CF was 11.13 but they were not racing against each other. If Parks had been running 4-A he would have gotten second, if he did not improve his time.

He also won the 200, the 400 relay/ The media in the eastern part of Iowa has been referring to Harrington as the fastest Iowan ever.

I heard once that Parks was going to walk on at ISU, as a preferred walk-on or something. Anyone know if that is true? What is his status?

clyde duncan from des moines tech was probably the fastest in the 100 yard-100 meter distance when he ran a 9.3 100 yard distance at the drake relays in 1958
it still stands for the 100 yrads as an iowa high school record. i do not know the equivalent of a 100 yd dash vs. 100 meters, but i believe the 9.3 100 yard dash would be somewhat faster if duncan had completed a 100 meter run in his equivalent 9.3 100 yard speed in the 100 meter distance..

Not exactly what you mean by "faster" but a meter is slightly longer than a yard. So 100 meter times would be very slightly more than 100 yd times.

100 meters = about 110 yards.

I'd say you could add at least 1 sec on to any 100 yd time.

A guy running 11.1 is far from the fastest of all time. Jerred herring ran 10.7 I think. Just a few years ago

Posters have really gotten into discussion of meters v yards in relation to Parks' speed, but what I was getting at was is the kid likely to now, or after JC or whenever possibly going to come to ISU? For those that have seen him, what do they think of him as a rb or db prospect.?:confused: Do they know what his thoughts are regarding his opinions of the ISU coaches and ISU?:confused::confused:

He signed to go to Iowa Central in Ft. Dodge. They said they will give him a shot at running back.

I would say Duncan was the fastest Iowa high school runner ever. Duncan ran on a cinder track which is significantly slower surface than tracks of today.

The times by Harrington and Keagan were a little slower than I expected them to be because ISU signee, slotback Teddy Lampkin ran a 10.74 last year when he won state in Nebraska last year.

Am so disappointed he gave up fb.:chatterbox:
