Some random thoughts from the big W tonight!

Offense
  • Jaylin Noel welcome to the party pal - great game out of him. 5 targets, 5 catches, 48 yards. He needed a game like this to get his confidence up. I can tell he has elite speed and runs smooth routes. Need to continue to get him looks, did Joe Scates not play tonight at all? I'm starting to think by year end Jaylin Noel is our #2 threat at receiver.
  • Breece - I mean what can be said? Just dominant. 200 yards, 2 td's, 6 yards a carry. He continues to play like this he is a 2nd round pick and might be flirting with first round status to me. Special player.
  • Brock - not flashy but one of his best games as a Cyclone. On target on third downs, accurate the whole night, no picks. When he is in a flow he's the best option for this team, and he is starting to finally play with the confidence we all know he can play with. Need him to be great against the pokes.
  • Tom Manning - great game called overall. I at no point felt we were predictable or sluggish. I also appreciate the more uptempo play at times. We don't have the O line to wait 30 seconds between plays and that is ok. He is calling good games lately and don't think he's been the problem this year. Yes the Iowa game was too conservative, but it's behind us. Need to continue games like this where we are a bit more free wheeling, will serve us well next week
  • O line - Newell, Downing, Simmons, and Schweiger all got some space for Breece. Good job and I do not recall Brock getting hit. I didn't notice Foster much tonight and that's probably a positive. Jihrehl Brock is a good backup and receiving threat for us too.
Defense
  • Will McDonald - 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles. And if he doesn't slip a few times maybe gets 4 sacks. I will never understand why people peg Thibodeaux on Oregon as the best DE in college fball, Will's stats are better, he was better head to head last year, and straight up I think is a better player. Absolute stud.
  • Enyi - another solid night this dude just does not quit. 1 sack tonight. He should be on an nfl roster next year he has been incredible.
  • Mike Rose - he had a few collisions with Deuce Vaughn where I actually thought Deuce would get hurt. Best LB to ever play for us and it's not even that close.
  • Anthony Johnson - had some absolute trucks out there tonight and played extremely physical will need him to continue that
  • Tampa is still feeling his game out, struggles at times, but the future is bright with him
  • Beau Freyler and Craig McDonald - man is the future bright at safety
  • Skyler Thompson was sore at the end of the game and other qb's will be as well with the way we play
Spec Teams
  • Andrew Mevis can kick, and kick with confidence. Perfect night and it made a huge difference.
  • Outside of the one long-ish return to the 40 coverage teams were solid
  • Cameron Shook - Corey Dunn set a bar fairly low for you sir and that's been an improvement. Good hang time, distance leaves a little to be desired.
We can make the argument we should be ranked this week at 4-2 with losses to two really good teams. And we may still be unranked, that's okay. More fuel for the fire for the team next Saturday. I LIKE our chances, Spencer Sanders is mistake prone, and campbell is due over Gundy. I feel a victory coming next Saturday.

Oh, and did I mention I love Purdue football. That's all folks!

Purdy really threaded some needles out there and happy Shaw caught his. We expect the great catches from Kolar and he impressed again.

Thompson just always annoys me since he was begging for a flag in our big comeback game in Ames when he overthrew a receiver who tripped up on his own feet.

It was so nice to see K-State make the mistakes that we usually do in that game. Secondary still needs to improve IMO, but I think the defense should be fine against Okie State. If we don’t turn the ball over I like our chances.

Need to finish drives with more TDS (3) than FGs (4) and eliminate unnecessary penalties (like the super motion stuff for a 4th and 1 play).

That's all I have!

I'll take 33-20 every game, but this could have been 49-20!
You’re not wrong but you can’t complain about a double digit win in Manhattan.

This is the BEST GAME that the offensive line has played all season.....Tom Manning CALLED A GREAT GAME.....Ryan Harkau said it best when he said..."The KState Defense doesn't know when to bring pressure and when not to bring pressure"....I would add that Offensive Line REALLY DOMINATED The Wildcat defensive front four.....

What can I say about Breece Hall & Brock Purdy..."When they are on they both are simply the best in College Football....

I think that Matt Campbell is the best coach at Iowa State ever....At least starting in October 1962 when I saw my first ISU Football Game!!

...and remember GO CYCLONES!

Jared Hufford started at LT over Foster, which is why you didn’t notice him :) great write up and pretty much same thoughts I had!

30.5 yards per punt ain't going to cut it. WTF?!?!
Special teams took a big step but is still not where it needs to be. Yes, punting is still a disaster. Punt return, might as well call it an automatic fair catch. Kick return hands team, don’t sit around waiting for the ball to go 10 yards! Seriously, K-State almost got the ball because we sat around instead of falling on it.

One FG was at the end of the half, and two may have resulted because of a false start penalties. The offense does seem to bog down sometimes when they get to that just-outside-the-red-zone area, so that is something to work on. Also gotta fix those untimely false starts.

Overall, a stout job by the offense! Hopefully, they can continue to go forward.

Not big enough, it's seems we're always teetering on the brink in the first quarter and a half of games and it's all due to that.

Having Shaw back healthy could be huge for this team. Just having a big body on the perimeter helps keep the focus off of Kolar. Then having a slot receiver in Noel that can catch and make plays only helps more. We may have the weapons to compete with OU again. This feels like the second half of last year all over again.

We'll know that about 6 o'clock Saturday.
