Just curious - there a reason you announce this over just simply not playing them?
I thought Kaden Fish might be a red shirt candidate as well.
Now how in the name of Fran McCaffery are we supposed to rotate 15 guys if we keep redshirting everybody?
Bit surprised but credit for Jelani for seeing the opportunity isn't there this year and taking the development route. In this Transfer Portal era having 2 RS players has to be a oddity.
I agree but I assume JT came early just to red shirt and knew the deal. I get it with him since he would just be still in high school normally
I'd assume that when TJ is discussing things with the player, the benefits and downside of such an action are discussed. If they weren't going to see the floor much, I think it increases the focus on getting better and lessens the frustrations of waiting to be called off the bench.

Theoretically, it'll stop people from asking about them every game.
I like the long term potential of both. I think this is a good move for them both going forward.

He will be a reshirt and a half by fall 2024. 18 months banging around the lane with Big Rob and Tre will be "developmental", in much the same way that Parris Island is "developmental".

My thoughts exactly. Just get ahead of it (rumors, Randy asking the question after every game).
Likely so fans don't start wondering why they are not playing every game and media doesn't continually ask questions. Address it once with a release (and maybe TJ answers ?'s at his next availability) but, then it should be done for the season
My guess is that Fish is going to be ready to rebound right away and with our lack of height may need to play some spot minutes. I am hoping he is a Dustin Hogue type player.
