I'm sure this has probably done before, but who do you think is the best/will be the best player of all time when its said and done? Me and my buddy were having this conversation last night, just kinda curious to hear some of your thoughts...

Everyone is going to say Jordan hands down. Most people don't realize that he played in during an era where he had little to no competition. The leauge was bad back when he was winning.

I still go Jordan, Kobe, and Lebron

Lebron is the most talented but doesn't have the mental makeup the others do. He hasn't hit a jump shot to win an important game and doesn't appear ready to as of yet. Of course he is only 24

Best player should be measured by not just ability but championships. Kobe has 3 and his chances for more are dwindling, this might be the year for number 4. Lebron obviously hasn't won any but he'll get some before his time is up. I don't see either of them reaching Jordan's 6.
It's hard to compare Lebron to anybody though because there truly has never been anybody like him in the NBA.

Jordan, Lebron, Kobe

Lebron single handedly carried his team to the championship 2 years ago. He doesn't have any rings but I GUARANTEE he will because if he gets old and still doesn't have one he will do what Garrett did: take a pay cut to get on/form a already talented team and make a run or 2.

Also, Lebron doesn't have the athletes around him to win a championship that Jordan or Kobe do. If he won even 1 championship on the team he is on now (without another superstar) I would move him to number 1.

I absolutely hate Kobe, but I have to admit, that guy is clutch. Lebron is young, and has the tools, but it's too early to judge him. So for me, it is a two man race, and boy is it close.

Still probably have to go with Jordan, but it's a tough decsion.

There is no way that anybody can put Lebron over Kobe for a career right now. Kobe is so much better it isn't even close.

Better scorer - Kobe hands down
Better defender- Kobe hands down
More titles - Kobe and he is about to win a couple more w/o Shaq

Lebron is great. But right now is getting by with being the biggest freak in the league. He has no jump shot and when teams commit to stopping his drive he struggles

Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Isiah Thomas, Shaq, Hakeem, Ewing, Dominique, Barkley, and Kemp isn't exactly bad competition. I think Pippen had a lot to do with Jordan's success.

Kobe is not a better scorer hands down. Lebron has a higher career scoring average than Kobe and shoots a higher percentage. Also, if you have watched any Cavs games this year you will know Lebron has been shutting guys down on defense. Kobe is still better but Lebron has started to realize what it is going to take for him to be in the Jordan conversation.

During Jordan's time, there were fewer teams as well, so the talent wasn't as spread out.

I think Pippen was overrated. I know he made the list of top 50 all time, but I think that is rediculous. If you had to build a team around one guy, does anyone really think Pippen would lead the team to greatness?

The knock on Kobe is that he hasn't won it all without Shaq.

Jordan won it all without an offensive post presence.

If Jordan's father wasn't murdered...the Bulls would have won 9 straight.

If anything I think Pippen was underrated. In the year Jordan missed because of retirement Pippen carried that team to the conference championship. He is without a doubt one of the best perimeter defenders of all-time, something that is huge in the NBA. Jordan was his own post presence in the later years.

For those of you that are saying guys other than Jordan, and I know this might not be relevant to the discussion in a direct manner. Do you think Kobe or Lebron could win a game against Jordan in his prime, while they're at their prime.

I realize 1 on 1 may be different than who's the best based on who's the best NBA player or whatever, but I'm curious. I'm with Clone 5, I'd say the NBA was solid when Jordan played.

I think Jordan wins against either so I give him the nod

Lebron: 27.6 PPG
Kobe 27.0 PPG

Lebron: 2.05 Steals per game
Kobe: 1.33 Steals per game

The stats disagree with your first 2 comments. Defense can not be based solely on steals obviously but it is a big stat when there really isn't any other stats to use there.

My vote goes to Lebron James, hands down!!!

He'll have more years in the NBA over Jordan and has a better head on his shoulders than Kobe..

I don't think you can compare Lebron yet. He's just too young. He definately has the potential to take the title, but as of now, he's just a little heavier version of Magic Johnson.

I think MJ beats Kobe and Lebron beats both of them in 1 on 1 just because he's so much bigger.
Usually people talk about the 80's and early 90's as the pinnicle of talent in the NBA.
