Jon Miller article on Ferentz

Kirk Ferentz isn't the scumbag that everyone here loves to portray him as

Ferentz Under Siege | Hawkeye Nation

I have no desire to read Jon Miller's puff piece. I'm sure that it's similar to the "article" defending KF that turned out to be authored by the guy who had already written a book about the history of the hokeyes. Just another attempt by the bootlickers to shape public opinion in iowa's favor. I'm glad that there are some national media types who aren't scared of the iowa blowback.

Personally, I don't think that KF is a scumbag...he's just made some stupid decisions and this state has failed to call him out on them all in the name of almighty iowa football.

Fair and balanced article by the premier example of impartial sportswriting of our generation.

Tell me that jimlad isn't needed here.

And then there's me. I represent the NEXT generation of sportswriting.

May God help us all

I don't have all the hatred for Ferentz that some do, but he has made some stupid decisions.

And I have no desire to read Miller's article. It's pretty hard to be objective about somebody when you only view of him is the back side of his arse since his nose is buried so far up there. That guy could kill somebody in plain view of Ferentz and he'd come up with a stupid excuse about the media going after him.

I'm sure KF is a nice guy. I don't really question that, and I don't think the national media is either.

Jon Miller's piece is exactly what you would expect from a Hawkeye sports writer. Why wouldn't he defend KF?

But KF does make some really dumb public relations decisions that cost him greatly in the public's perception of him. This whole mess, like a lot of others in IC, was handled horribly. It makes KF, Barta, and Doyle out to be non-caring guys. They probably are not non-caring at all, but the way this was handled sure makes them look that way.

And all of this.... "we are going to handle it internally", may have to change. Because people now wonder if anything at all is actually being handled internally? They are going to have to answer for this mess in public IMO... or it won't go away. Why did this happen? They will have to answer that. KF cannot just say "we'll handle it internally". Players' health is at question here. It's not just getting into trouble with the law. Parents wan't to know that the Iowa football program is a safe place for their child to be?

KF has to change his PR ways.

Shocking. The Mouthpiece of the Hawkeyes defends the Hawkeyes. Watch out, Woodward and Bernstein.

I like how Ferentz uses the word "communication." What does that mean? Sending out a blast text message. "Get btr soon. Dont talk 2 press"?

I have no reason to doubt that Ferentz cares for his players. I think he probably does. The problem I have is, he doesn't take any accountability for the flaws in his program. I still think he should have cut his recruiting trip short, and stood in front of the world at the presser and said, "This happened during my watch, and I'm going to fix it."

Incidentally, I think he could have spun that into a recruiting tool. He could have called the recruits he'd intended to visit and told them why he was heading back to Iowa. In other words, "Not only do I care for you as a recruit, but also after you've come into the fold."

Kirk Ferentz doesn’t care about the players that were sent to the hospital? Iowa has some punitive strength and conditioning program all of the sudden, when Kirk’s own son is a member of this program at present and another one of his son’s was a past member of the program? Do people realize how ridiculous that sounds as they say it or write it?

You should be put into a work camp for using that phrase, Mr. Miller.

I think all would be served if they saw Kirk Ferents for what he is: a Division 1 football coach. He takes kids has them play football. He works them not because he 'loves' them, he isn't their daddy. They are a paycheck to him. He treats them well enough to get what he wants-they respect him enough to get him what he wants-big, giant, fat paydays.

Kirk is a football coach, he is like some of those folks that are foster care parents-payday. If you remove all o fthe b.s. he is a a coach. Doing what is BEST FOR HIM. Sometimes his motives match up with the kids, sometime it doesn't. he is in a particularly precarious position because Iowans want him to be something he isn't. Somebody that is trustworthy. He isn't trustworthy-he is a football coach that makes millions of dollars on risking kids health. "Next man in" is "Dear God I hope someone can carry the football as well as Robinson".

I wish Kirk had a presser that said the following: I make NFL players. I hope like heck the kids are reasonable citizens while in school because it makes my life easier. Sometimes the two previous don't happen. I will win games. Pay me and I will give you what you so desperatley crave-winning football.

I'm still trying to figure out why a supposed Hawkeye fan posted this article on THIS board. I'm pretty sure a Jon Miller written article about Kirk Ferentz is quite possibly the last thing that is going to change an ISU fan's opinion of Ferentz.

He won't want to get burned by another prediction of perfection again. He'll have the good sense to predict them as 11-1 for the 2011 season. Book it.

If he predicts 10-2 or better for the upcoming season I will stop posting on HN. The 12-0 prediction was bad enough, but at least there was a microcosm of justification for that prediction. There wouldn't be any for predicting 10 or more wins this upcoming season.
