I see that Jon Leuer, one of the recruits McD is going after, is having his stock rise greatly. When I first heard we were going after Leuer I was a little disappointed and thought we could do a lot better than him--this came only from the fact that there are many top 150 players on our list for next year, so I thought..why go after a guy like this who isn't ranked very highly at all. However, I now see that McD knows what he is doing and is very good at evaluating talent. In the past week, I see that North Carolina, Kansas, and Wake Forest are after Leuer. He has to have some very good talent to be recruited by those three schools, especially being from Minnesota. So, I'm starting to think this would be a great pickup.

Also, we are going after many other top recruits. I think if we could Craig Brackins, Keaton Nankivil, or Teeng Akol along with Leuer that would really help us up front. Then, we still have two scholarships left for guards/SF. Drew Viney, Eshaunte Jones, and Jamine Peterson would all be solid pickups.

I would also like to know if McD is still recruiting P'Allen Stinnett. He is still listed on Rivals which has been updated many times since McD has come, so I have to assume ISU is still an option for Stinnett.

The future is bright for Cyclone basketball...thankfully I am only 20 and have many more years to experience the great joy of being a Cyclone fan.

I have learend to not be so critical of decisions made by coaches, especially on who to recruit. if they haven't done their due diligence on these players they offer, then they should not be in the profession. They have seen the guys play either in person or on film (and maybe both) and done their evaluation. They don't come to these decisions lightly or at least they shouldn't. Most of the time, they appear to know what they're doing and they sure as heck know a lot more about it than the average fan. That's not to say we should write them a blank check, but we need to give them a chance to show what they can do before we go criticizing them for these decisions.

Please note, I'm not saying that's what you did. I'm just saying that's how I've come to look at the situation you are talking about.

I like the post about not thnking too much about Leuer but now changing your mind. Everyone just assumes the kid is a mid major talent from Minnesota that GMac is after and rolls their eyes. Then his stock goes through the roof and he's fine and we need to get him. At some point a coach should be given the benefit of the doubt especially one who never got to coach a game yet.

Alan Alda Clone is right on in this topic. I don't understand the thrills a lot of you younger guys get from seeing your thoughts on the screen and expressing an opinion on a subject you know little about. (I'm not pointing at anyone in particular, ust a generalization.) But I realy don't understand how anyone on these message boards can criticize a coach or his recruits when none of YOU have ever seen the kid play, or talked to anyone else who has. Most of your opinions about recruits are based on where the kid is from, nothing to do with his ability or ambition. I remember a lot of talk about a "wasted scholarship" by LE on a big farm boy from a small school in NW Iowa. That didn't turn out too bad, just let the coaches do the recruiting.

21 rebounds against North Carolina by the Remson Rebel in the NCAA was not too shabby. All about hustle. Now, if he could just speak Greek. That other farmboy from NW Iowa was Loren Meyer who played for Ruthven. Bet he was an unknown to rivals/scout.

Remember that coach's son from Illinois that walked on when Johnny Orr was at ISU because he couldn't get any offers from D1 schools? What ever happened to that guy? ;)

I was not trying to criticize McD or the recruits. In fact...my point was to compliment McD for recognizing talent. The fact that McD recognized Leuer before anyone else did is a testament in itself. I love what McD has been able to do since he has got here.

And...just b/c we're young doens't mean we don't know anything about Cyclone athletics.

My comment about the location was just getting at the fact that in order for schools out east to recognize someone from MN you have to be a solid player. They're not just gonna go after an average player. This was also meant to be a compliment to Leuer.

Unless we're talking aboot hockey players. Yeah, yoo betcha. ;D

What are the stats on PF Jon Leuer from Minnesota?

We already have one fellow from the Land of 12000 Lakes.

Huskers Marcus Walker, the big Missouri star wants to find a nother school if they let him out of his contract. He did not like Barry Collier style of basketball was the quote. The guard had averaged 30 points a game in high school and wanted to speed up his tempo. He would make four people who left the Huskers squad this year, and they only lost an associate coach!
