Just remembered the time he dribbled behind the back on a fast break.....can't remember who it was against, but it was awesome.

I remember that play very well - it was jaw dropping.

I also liked the Ronnie Harris overacheiver remark. Now if only Johnny would have kept in touch with Ronnies son - he might have come to ISU liek his dad.

Julius talked about being homesick but never went home...well that doesn't happen anymore.

He was fun to watch.

His late 3 pointer won the NCAA tournament game against Florida in 1995. It was a huge shot.

I played pickup ball with Julius one time in the 'new' rec center. He was playing with some guys from his floor and he was the only real player out there, the rest of the guys were pretty bad. One of the guys had a medical issue and had one side of his body that wasn't responsive like he had a stroke or something.

First off Julo could do anything he wanted on the floor. He took the ball of me at least twice and hit a couple long 3's.

Second he went out of his way to get the guy with the disability the ball and make sure he was involved.

Finally, it was obvious that everyone he was with thought he was the greatest guy ever.

He's no doubt a great Cyclone...but a better person.

I only meet him the one time, but it left an impression.

Its funny to see these guys who I grew up watching practice in Forker gym. To me it was always just a gym where you could play pickup games or other intramurals. I will never forgive my wife (girlfriend at the time) for losing co-ed volleyball intramurals in that gym. Aaahhh!!!

I had Julo in a history class, and he was a pretty funny guy when he opened his mouth. His winter coat sleeves only went down to his elbows. The guy absolutely didn't miss in pick-up games.

Julo was a good player, really enjoyed watching him. I always thought he didn't fit Floyd's system quite as well as Orr's his senior year but he did play great in that Florida tourney game.

What is Julo doing now? For some reason I thought I heard he was still in the area.

what a class....Hoiberg, Meyer, Michalik, and Beechum. I do have a dvd of the 1991-92 season (Hoiberg, etc freshman yr) , if anyone wants a copy PM me.

I loved Johnny Orr because he was no-bs guy. I never liked Woody Hayes, but like Orr respected their honesty...so much these days coaches from big schools will play a SE Delaware State Technology College and blow them up about how good of a team they are and how well coached and yada yada yada, just because they don't wanna be bulletin board material. Those old school guys would basically say we'll show up and beat them. Orr telling Vitale off was fantastic!

I saw him at a football game a few years ago. Looked the same as he did as a freshman.

Found this article from 2006. Was coaching Harlan soccer.
