I was a student at ISU in 83-84 and went to a few games, and then had season tickets in 84-85, so I got to see the NIT team, and then the 1st NCAA tourney team in 40 years. As I'm thinking of my Johnny Orr memories today, it got me thinking that not only has Johnny left us, but we have also lost Pete Taylor and Barry Stevens from those days as well. It's very hard to believe that the voice of the Cyclones from that era, the first star player of that era, and the coach from that era are all gone. Thanks for the memories!

Funny, was thinking the same thing on the way home. Man that was a lot of fun listening to those games on the radio, lot of fun wins and heartbreaking losses. Johnny was almost better to listen to after a loss on the radio.

He actually apologized to Pete and the fans after games (usually on the road) when the team played a really poor game.

He did and I loved him for it. He would say "Gosh darnit Pete, we just weren't aggressive. We were terrible all night, and so and so was just awful. I wanna apologize to the fans Pete, we just weren't any good."
