John Meeks wins at Dapper Dan

Not a huge wrestling fan but I am excited to see what Meeks and others can do at Iowa State. I don't care if it's a one point win or a 7 point win. It's a win for ISU.

I agree, it was definitely a very strategic match. Sure, not a lot of offensive action, some nice little scrambles that ensued after the great counters though. Both wrestlers, Meeks especially, seemed to stay in great position, staying squared up at all times, keeping the hands down and in front ready to counter. Interesting to see neither wrestler really wanting to tie up or hand fight much, mostly just circle and shoot or counter. Don't usually see that.

I'm certainly no expert, but the only critique I might see is both wrestlers seemed like they could use some work on top, but that might just be that both were very explosive from the bottom and worked hard at getting the escape.

Very happy to see Meeks win and very excited to see him as a cyclone!

Never scored a offensive point.
what does that have to do with anything, no there were NO offensive points scored, can you tell me where you would of gotten one, can you break down that match and fix somthing that would of caused him to get an offensive point - the goal is to win the match, if your shots are shut down you must stay composed and find a way to win

Those words came directly from, "Dan Gable". Dan Gable doesn't lack wrestling knowledge. Evidently you win first prize for the lack of wrestling knowledge award. When it comes to me, I have forgotten more wrestling than you'll ever know.

Dan Gable said that about that match?

I don't see the point in putting down and arguing with a recruit's father. I don't necessarily agree with everything Mr. Meeks says, but he is obviously knowledgeble about the sport and cares for his family. It is unfortunate that there was a lot of crap posted mostly elsewhere, general crap, that other posters certainly didn't appreciate either, and he felt he needed to respond to.

i dont care who said it, matches are like life, they dont always go the way that you want them to no matter how much you put into it, close matches happen and if you know as much about wrestling as you say that you do then you should understand that - besides, a win is a win. John said that he feels he done all that he could without taking stupid chances and that is all that matters so with that i am done with this thread

That's the difference between wanting to win.

People like you are pathetic. Im sure talking trash in a wrestling forum makes you feel better about that extra 100 pounds you put on or that bald patch. You also seem to know jack about the sport so its time to take off.

I know alot about wrestling. I could ask you questions that you couldn't answer. I'm 6'2" and weigh 185#. I have plenty of hair and it would take more than a big mouth like you to make me leave. So, put up or shut up.
