Is it just me or does Hohn Higgins never grant Iowa State ANY breaks when he refs. Like this weekend he was blowing his whistle before any fouls were happening when we were in the final minute of the game, he made bad calls all day, I have noticed this as well in other games..... I dont know what he has against Iowa State but he does not like us. is it just me noticing? Thoughts?

In the end it went both ways on the fouls. The final call went ISU's way so there is no reason to *****.
Is Higgins the one LE got into it with?
Also, after the game both coaches said what a great job the refs did - was that just coach speak because there were many calls I questioned.

Ya I know but both seemed to go out of their way to compliment the refs - seemed odd or maybe couches do this all the time in the post game interviews and I've never noticed.
John Higgins is the worst ref in college basketball. I cringe when he is an official for one of our games, can't hardly watch a game on TV when he is one of the officials. Terrible!!

The coaches meant what they said, Higgins is considered one of the best officials in CBB. He officiated the Big 12 title game last year, and the Duke-West Virginia Final 4 contest. To get those games, you have to be highly thought of.
Same goes for Steve Olson, one of the other officials on the floor yesterday. He's done numerous NCAA regional games.
I still maintain the game was well officiated for whatever that's worth.
I can't think of many refs that LE didn't get into it with, but if you're talking about the Mich. State game, then no. That was "Quick Draw" Curtis Shaw. He's known for handing out T's faster than just about any other ref in the biz.
That's what you hear about Hightower, too. I don't get it. I suspect that respect comes from other control-freak referees.
Higgins refereed my high school games back in the early 90s and we called him "surfer dude." I like "Hollywood Higgins" better. Some of these guys referee so many games night in and night out, I think it would be helpful for them to take a full year break. Seems like some of these veteran referees (Ed Hightower) just seem to get worse!
Regardless of what anybody thinks of his officiating, his hair is the stuff dreams are made of...if I had his flowing locks I think I could eliminate world hunger in a week :yes:
Yes Brent, John Higgins is one of the top 5 officials in the country, IMO. He spoke at our referees' clinic last summer and went through game tape/situations for almost three hours. A tremendously dedicated and talented basketball official.
At least you, me, and Coach Hoiberg know how good he is.
