Good on you for posting this. I was just logging in to post this same thing. I was up at The Star on Tuesday for lunch and had the opportunity to talk to a few people around the facility. They REALLY like Lanning! Several of the coaches and admin mentioned that he has amazing work ethic and is a very bright athlete. I'm happy for Joel! He deserves good things!

Hear anything about Murdock or Campos?

Hear anything about Murdock or Campos?

I asked about both of them together, as in "How about Marchie and Jake?", and wish I'd asked it differently because the answer was confusing "Nice size. We'll see how practice goes." It was a casual conversation and I was there as a guest of a member.

(As a complete aside from the conversation... the entire place is covered with Dez Bryant mural art. And seeing that Dez hasn't signed anywhere yet I'm guessing he'll be back on the team at a significantly reduced salary.)

As a lifelong Cowboys hater, it'd be weird to be cheering for one of their players. Hope he makes it!

Growing up a Steelers fan as a kid in the 70's I'd hated the Cows my entire life. But having moved to Dallas a decade ago, I'm not embarrassed to say that I've adopted them as my second team, and nobody can call me a band wagon fan because they've sucked the whole time I've been in Dallas. They're actually pretty easy to cheer for and if you ever get the chance to meet Jerry one-on-one he's one of the most "real" people you'll meet.

I hated the Cowboys but loved me some Bill Bates on special teams during the early 90's. Man would whack your backside and was hard as nails.

Great article. The Morning News has always had the best Cowboys coverage. I'm sure locals will be pulling for Joel to make the roster, too, given his Big 12 heritage. They are football purists down there, and he is the kind of throwback that appeals the most. HC Garrett is an ex QB himself, and knows the value of an Iron Man. And the Mayfield tackle video clip played a billion times over gives him some Lone Star cred all by itself.

If you read on, the article mentions historic QBs who made the transition to D. Nolan Cromwell was the best example. His 1975 win as the Kansas QB over OU was a monumental upset. That Sooners team had many of the 1974 players back, including the Selmon brothers, and nobody was able to beat them. Then, of course, as NFL fans know, he went on to become an historically great NFL safety. And can you even dream up a name better than that?
