Joe Mauer to DL

Sounds like maybe he was just not in good enough shape coming out of Spring Training. He did not get much actual game activity in down there, since he was still recovering from the surgery.

After tonight's game, and then this news that Washington trade for Ramos last year does not look so good right now for the Twins.
 
The days are numbered for him as a catcher. But where do you play him?

And you are right, trading Ramos leaves a gapping hole at catcher moving forward. Not that Drew Butera and his .167 batting average aren't a viable option. :skeptical:

Originally, the talk was always for Mauer to move to 3rd base.......but now they have Valencia there, although he is not signed past this year, I don't believe. Latest talk among the beat writers in Minnesota (thru tweets) is for him to move to RF. Problem there is the Twins are seemingly loaded with outfielder prospects, but that may be where he ends up. The Twins picked up the options for Cuddyer and Kubel for this year. Young was signed for this year, and Span is signed through 2014 with an option for 2015 I believe. Then they have Revere and Hicks (and others) in the minors.

He was going to see a specialist today in Baltimore that he had worked with before, but he spent last night in the hospital with the flu. They even checked for appendicitis. It seems he was just kind of a wreck coming out of Spring Training or something. Explains his slow start I guess.

Yeah, trade for Ramos looks bad right now. Especially considering he is hitting like .450 for the Nats so far, platooning with Pudge, and the blown save that Capps had last night.

The whole team just seems to have come out of Spring Training in the dumps or something. Hopefully, they will turn it around soon.
