MLB: Joe Crede is a Twin

Great news for the Twins I think. Good platoon with Buscher to give Crede a break from the turf when needed. Wonder what they will do with Harris? Third is his best position. Maybe he will do short ahead of Punto?

Anyway, this is good news if true.

Does this mean that Fields is going to get the 3rd base job? He was the hot prospect at that position wasn't he?

Him, Viciedo, or (shudder) Betemit. Fields did have 23 HR in 100 games as a rookie, so he's got 40 HR potential. He might have 200 K potential too.

Good pick up to help the Twins solidify what has been a problem position for years.

Even better would be if they can close the pending deal for Juan Cruz without creating another hole in the roster. With Neshek not available again, upgrading the setup spot could easily mean another 5 or more games in the win column.

Even a 80% healthy Crede is an improvement defensively over the current options. The Twins will have him concentrate on producing quality at bats rather than swinging for the fences. Let the home runs come when they will. It will be interesting to see where they slot him. I can see Gardy using him anywhere from 4 through 7. His biggest contribution might be helping Morneau get better pitches.

I'd have a real tough time giving up Type A compensation for Juan Freaking Cruz.

That's also not acceptable to the Twins with the premium that they put on draft picks. They are proposing a deal that takes advantage of the recent clarification that allows a sign and trade deal for a FA. It comes down to how much the D-backs demand for letting him go now compared to getting nothing for him in June.

If the Twins would have had Cruz's power arm available last year, they would have been playing the Rays in October.

Crede is gonna look wierd in a twins uniform. I think the sox really screwed up when they let Rowand go......hopefully this release will turn out just as bad. At least from the twins perspective.:yes::yes:

Anderson had the potential to be much better than Rowand. He still might. He's got a better glove and a better power bat. Just lags as far as average. He even runs face first into walls.

Man.....I don't know about Cruz. I like that lefty we brought up late in the season to supplement the bullpen. I think we definitely would have been in postseason with Pat in the bp all year.

Yeah, but what if we had Contreras and TCQ healthy all year? Or Crede for that matter?

TCQ??? WTF? What does the "T" stand for? The?

Yes.

The Carlos Quentin.

White Sox fans have bestowed the nickname "TCQ," standing for "The Carlos Quentin." The name originates from a quote from GM Ken Williams after he acquired Quentin. He said, "We wanted to upgrade at shortstop, get a setup guy for the bullpen, acquire Carlos Quentin, and not a guy like him but actually Carlos Quentin,"

this is a really good pickup for the twins I think. My lineup would be:
1. Span
2. Casilla
3. Mauer
4. Cuddyer
5. Morneau
6. Young
7. ????
8. Punto
9. Gomez

I wouldn't split Mauer and Morneau up, but with a solid right handed bat with Cuddyer, it forces teams to pick their poison of bringing a lefty in late in the game to face one guy. I don't really see a difference either in switching Punto or Gomez around for the 8 & 9 spots either. But we got some speed again in the 8-9-1-2 spots for the big bats.

The lefty you are talking about is Mijares. He is talented, but I really don't expect him to head north with the team initially. He got cut loose from his winter league team over an issue related to immaturity. I don't expect the Twins to count on him until after he goes to Rochester and proves that he learned from his mistake. They took a similar allow him to grow up route with Lariano a couple of years ago, and he responded appropriately.
