Wow - how can i continue to be a Cowboys fan....this dork is at it again....So heres the question....three years in a row you finish second in your division which btw does that mean your 1 win out of the wild card position? NO!!!!! Now this idiot wants to increase the number of playoff teams to improve his chances of the boyz getting into the playoffs....

Jerry Jones of Dallas Cowboys in favor of expanding NFL playoffs - ESPN Dallas

Hey here's an idea - HOW BOUT GETTING BETTER AND MAYBE REDUCING YOUR SALARY CAP WHILE YOUR AT IT.....

Brutal - an owner and billionaire that has ZERO CLUE on how to run a football organization!!!!! Well at least run one that is in a position that it can win a championship....Its been shown that with enough money anyone can run a business, its the really good guys that know there are guys out there that are smarter about football then these two plastic faced oil dorks....

Brutal.....how much longer does he have....unfortunately, he will leave everything to his son whos got us in the salary cap position we currently in....another brilliant mind!!!!

To borrow a joke from Johnny Orr, what do the Reverand Billy Graham and Jerry Jones have in common? They're the only two people that can make 80,000 stand up and say "JESUZ CRHIST!"

Now thats right!!!!

Probably more like 180,000 or whatever their weekly viewer count is....

I am no Cowboys fan, but the reason he can do what he wants is because the fans still pay unimaginable prices for tickets, merchandise, parking, etc. All over the country too. He made a splash and had a little dynasty in the early 90's. He is still reaping the benefits of that 20 years later. Sounds like a hell of a business man/owner to me.

Of course he wants to get his team to the playoffs. He is a guy that enjoys winning. The defense was the reason they didn't have a shot this year. Lot of injuries and inexperience. Is it Jerry's fault? You can put a little blame on him for getting rid of Ryan, then stating he wants his defense to switch it up and send multiple blitzes.

Doesn't change the fact the guy is an expert at keeping a franchise relevant.

considering he is a billionaire and has one of the most profitable franchises, I would guess that he does in fact know how to run a nfl franchise.

also 3 superbowls.

3 superbowls thanks to teams Jimmy Johnson built. He is a smart guy a good business man, but his team is stuck at being average.

They really should allow and reward teams that have an average season a birth in the playoffs.

Sounds like Nebby fans.

Edit to add: not accusing you guys of such an atrocity...just commenting on the parallel of cowboy-logic and bugeater-logic.

I saw this and lol'd - Jerry being Jerry. But this topic is not his - it's been brought up for years.

Also, Dallas would not have made playoffs in any of the recent years under the potential expanded playoff scenarios. Just adding some facts for y'all.

Jerry does know what he is doing as an NFL franchise owner and is one of the best owners in the NFL - fact.

He is not good as a GM and desperately needs to realize that and give up the GM responsibilities - own the team and let a GM manage and coaches coach.

I kind of LOL at Jerry's take because it signals that the NFL needs to bail out his failings as a GM with the inability to get the Cowboys into the playoffs by expanding the number of teams in the playoffs. That being said, I'm actually in favor of expanding the playoffs to 8 teams per conference. The 18 game schedule is just ridiculous, though.

The Cowboys have been at their best when Jimmy and Parcells made personnel decisions. Jerry has no clue about football and things will get worse when he dies and Stephen takes full control.

He is becoming the next Al Davis though. There was one time Al was the guy everyone looked to for how to run a franchise. The last half of his tenure, he was kind of looked at as the crazy old man. I have a feeling Jerry is going to carry that torch for Al.

The Boys legacy and following was built before Jones. His only claim to fame was his stadium, and his ego will continue to make them irrelevant.

I have a feeling that with Jerry's desire to do EVERYTHING better than everyone, he will surpass all of Al's achievements in running a completely dysfunctional and underperforming, yet somehow still profitable NFL franchise.

Read the book Soccernomics. There is a chapter that the mid level teams in the european leagues of soccer are the most profitable. Basically paying to be great is loses more money than being mediocre. Obviously it is a little different in the NFL with the salary cap, but Jerry prints money out of the Cowboys, has to act like he wants to make the playoffs, which would make him a little more money but really he is happy the team is winning as a business.

Same applies to the Bears, Cubs, and Knicks.

Even if I ignore the ineptitude of the past 15 seasons and the fact I think expanding the playoff is unnecessary — his timing couldn't be any worse with those comments.

I'm just spitballing here, but follow the money. For the first time ever, the NFL has to give three teams a 24 hour extension to sell out their games and avoid a local blackout. The prevailing rationale for sluggish ticket sales is that the NFL has finally gone too far in gouging fans and it's simply too damn expensive to go, especially when the HD television game experience from home is just as good or better in terms of the view, cost, and comfort.
So the NFL realizes that they're going to have to reduce ticket prices and stadium costs to keep fans coming, but they're going to have to find a way to replace that lost revenue from concessions, parking, merchandise, etc. How do they do that? Additional playoff games. More tv money, more fan interest, more exposure. Watering down the product is a non issue as tv ratings show that time and again a so-so NFL game is a better draw than virtually anything else in the same time slot. And who better to publicly get the ball rolling for an expanded playoff than the most prominent owner in the NFL?

I dont see how people have put up with the prices this long. Stay home for free or spend 130 dollars a ticket + 30 dollar parking + $2 water/$8 beer/$16 margaritas/$5 hot dogs/$7 nachos.

You can almost get a season ticket to a BPI#1 team for the cost of one pro game.
