As controversial as it is I have to breach this topic. I find it very hypocritical for Jay-Z to be the owner of the Nets with the first openly gay player on it and to have some of the Anti Gay lyrics that Jay Z puts in his songs.

See Lyrics to songs such as: Too Many Hoes, Super Ugly, Hey Papi, Lucky Me, La La La (excuse me again), 22 Twos, Nigga What Nigga Who, Gangsta ****, etc, etc, etc. I'm sure the list goes on.

He used to own a very, very, very small part of the Nets but I don't think he does anymore.

Jay-Z does not own the Nets and you're too sensitive.

Jay-Z also sings about living a Hard Knock Life - should he have to give up his billion or so to hold true to lyrics?

Ok I guess I forgot he had to sell the Nets for his Sports Agency. However Jay-Z has recently come out as a big gay marriage supporter along with Macklemore. So I still find it very hypocritical.

Couple Things:
a) Jay-Z only ever owned a fraction of a percent of the Nets. It was purely a publicity thing for the upcoming move to Brooklyn. He's also sold his shares off months ago when he started his sports agency.
b) I'm not familiar at all with Jay-Z's discography, but are those older songs you're referencing? It wouldn't surprise me if he's one of many, many people who has come around to a more enlightened view of homosexuality in the last few years.
c) Those are both probably moot points, because I doubt the majority owner Prokohorov is real gay tolerant considering his background.

So because it happened in the past it's cool? Like Paula Dean using the N word?

Dude, it's music lyrics. Is it hyprocrital that Ice-T wrote a song called "Cop Killer" but he never killed any cops? Paul McCartney never actually lived in a yellow submarine.

It IS possible that ignorant people can be educated or change their opinions on certain issues.

Does it change that it happened? No. Does it mean that it is the only relevant detail of a persons life? No.

Seriously. Eminem hugged Elton John for ****s sake.

So if I was in the KKK but left and married a black woman, it would be like I was never in the KKK at all?

No, but people make mistakes, especially if those mistakes are happening at a time when the general culture is super cool with homophobia. Bill Clinton signed DOMA into law when he was president and that doesn't match up at all with the politics he supports now. Just because Jay had some homophobic lyrics in, I'm assuming, the 90's doesn't necessarily mean he is anti-gay now or that he doesn't regret using those lines.

The world can only benefit from holding everything everyone has ever said or done against them.

A hip hop artist has made statements that would seem hypocritical when considering the content of his songs. Shocker!

No, it's still part of your history, but it would also be a remarkable sign of your progress as a human being. Your argument is so stupid, it's like saying the U.S. still endorses slavery because it once had slavery.
