It could have gotten ugly after the game..

I posted my agreement with the thread on class shown by CU after the game, but apparently there is more to the story. Sounds like it could have gotten ugly had not some of the CU players restrained others. Hats off to those with common sense, but no question it was a powder keg waiting to blow.
Buffs left kicking themselves : Top Stories : Boulder Daily Camera

Several CU players were so angry they had to be restrained by teammates as Iowa State fans stormed the field, just like CU fans did a year earlier when the Buffs beat the Cyclones in Folsom Field.

Yeah it was a dangerous situation out there, that is the first thing I thought, was those students are taking their lives in their own hands.

So, someone explain something to me. The rule of stopping the clock and giving a 5 yard penalty for snapping the ball early seems to benefit the penalized team. If CO doesn't do that, then they don't even have a chance to kick the second kick. Shouldn't there be a mandatory time run-off? This seems like a loop hole rule that can be used when out of time outs. This should be fixed.

It is definitely a loophole. The NFL runs 10 seconds off of the clock in those situations. If Colorado had really known what they were doing their center would have just run up and snapped the ball with 5 seconds left.

I agree, it is very confusing.

You don't think every long snapper in the country is going to look at that and know that if the game comes down, that is all they need to go, just go up snap it take the 5 yards get set and kick. That rule will be changed this year I bet.

I don't think anyone else is going to see it. Despite the crazy finish, I have not seen a single highlight from the game on TV.

They just got to keep in mind that they only have that amount of time to snap it on the next play. The clock doesn't start on the snap, it starts when the ball is set!

Do we know that for sure? Boulder paper says rule states clock starts on snap. No matter, the W is ours.

Clock starts when the ball is placed and the official has time to step out of the way. If you watch the one offical told the holder what was going on, and then stepped away. CU just blew it.

The players afterwards reminded me of UNLV players. They were slamming their helmets to the ground, etc. Can you be angry - yes. Should you act like crazy people that have to be "restrained" - no.

I also noticed when were leaving the stadium on the west side of the Jacobson building that an ISU fan was getting lippy with a CU player and the CU player started walking over to the fence after the guy. Luckily a couple of his players grabbed him before it got ugly.

I'm just glad that after all of this, Hawkins had the decency to not pull a Pinkel on the refs. It sounds like he's instilling a lot of discipline into that program judging by one of the player quotes, who admitted that the game shouldn't have come down to a field goal that would have sent the game into OT.

I think the Colorado players should focus the anger on their coach. Going for it on 4th and 1 when they ahead 21-0 is a head scratcher.

I agree. They had us on the ropes. Could have pined us deep with another 3 and out. To take the chance on a stop and momentum switch was crazy. I see in the blogs, they are really starting to turn on him already in boulderland. (Same with the blogs on Prince)

I'm sure this has been mentioned in other threads, but CU received one of the greatest gifts in the history of college football from an official f-up vs. Mizzou @ Faurot Field in 1990, you all know what I'm talking about so I won't rehash it here. But, what goes around, comes around.

We can all pile on CU players for being mad, put yourself in their place for just a second, you're out there battling for 60 minutes with a warrior mentality, your mindset is not exactly rational at that moment. I can understand some stomping and complaining to the refs right as the game was called over, it's human nature. Now mixing it up with ISU fans is another thing.... At least it didn't turn into what Illinois-THE ohio st. univ. did after the game...

I recall in 1995 seeing an angry ISU fan (male, probably in his mid 50s) get up in Rick Neuheisel's face as the buffs walked off the field, ripping into him for Skip electing to go for 2 when the Buffs were clearly in the lead.... Neuheisel, a coach who wasn't all that popular outside of Boulder (and not very popular there after the 97 season) remained very calm and tried to explain to the guy what he was doing... I guess that's where his law school training came into play....
