It’s time we talk about Gabe

Agree....and you know coaches know/see that (as they scout against and see how he shuts down their top players).

When Ejim got it, i was so happy as he wasn't necessarily the "mold" of POY (as usually it's a dominant offensive person, etc).

I think what is so neat to see with Gabe is how it seems he is confident in his ability on the court and doing so in a very even keeled way. Also have noticed when there may be an error or an off shot he doesn't seem to react negatively (where last year it seemed one bad lead to several minutes of visual attitude change).

Ejim was the third or 4th leading scorer in the conference I think, so even if we didn’t see him as a scorer, the stats did. Plus he had that 40+ point game vs TCU that really was his POY moment I think.

Never so glad to be wrong about someone (on the offensive side of the court). I've switched from "Noooo!" every time Gabe takes a three to now asking why he isn't chucking up 30 shots a game.

Fandom is weird.

It’s the in rhythm shots that have made all the difference. He rarely is forcing shots anymore which has lead to this IMO.

I was really surprised last year that he was not a 40% 3 point shooter considering how smooth his shooting mechanics looked.

This is ALWAYS one of my favorite parts of college sports. All the struggles for these guys are highly public and they catch all kinds of heat for it, but they keep working through it and come out the other side a hero. Melvin Ejim is the first one that comes to mind (stone hands, not Big 12 material, oops, Big 12 POTY his senior year).

Gabe is ascending into the 5-7 range for me

I'd honestly put him right there with Cyburn. Maybe even above him. Last year was a bit of a mixed bag but he was a key contributor on a team that took us from 2 wins to a sweet 16 and this year he is playing great on both ends and this team is really good. And he's hit some really huge shots in several games. The Shayok argument will be interesting. Shayok was the better individual player but only played for one year. And Gabe has the resurrection of the program going for him

I suspect that a coach's vote right now would be Gabe as POY and Nowell would be the media's.

Oh for sure (ah, that was a fun year). Loved he was rewarded as he was a grinder and always in the right spots.

Why? He wasn't playing dirty. Given what he's been through, its pretty cool to see him play at a high level.
He was a whiny, complaining little beotch who thought he was going to come in and throw his weight around.

This is insane.
I was pretty salty after the iowa game and said "gabe is what he is" -meaning a great defender who was a liability on offense but would have a couple randomly great shooting nights.
Since then, he has pretty much been non-randomly great EVERY game in conference, as the stats show.
Whatever he did to make that happen (red bull, meditation, kaballah, different brand of underwear, idk) is probably the MVP for this team. Turning those bad shots and turnovers into efficient ppg is absolutley what has made this team a contender.
NIL idea: Gabe Kalscheur underwear "right up in your junk"
