This is a good story, but I can't help believing that ISU will handle KSU this weekend.

I guess I shouldn't argue with Wally Burnham, but I think ISU faced two better backs in Robinson and Hampton last week than they will face in Thomas this week.

KSU's win over UCLA seems okay, but UCLA isn't that good this year. Skippy will be gone this year.

I've been accussed of drinking a lot of Cyclone Kool-Aid in the past, so I'm ready to get ripped again.

and how'd that work out? If these two are even close we're going to have to score a lot of points.

As a comparison, he may be saying that we just played Thomas Jones and Jamar Charles and now we will play Adrian Peterson.

I don't see us "handling" anybody that's left on our schedule, with the possible exception of UNI. All the age jokes aside, Snyder is a helluva coach and it will take our best effort to beat KSU on Saturday. As far as Iowa's backs vs. Thomas, I'd give the edge to Thomas by a slim margin. My concern is that he has the same kind of power that ripped us a new *** this past weekend. He's not the kind of guy I want to see in an opposing back field on any Saturday, let alone when we're as thin at LB as we are. What I wouldn't give to Jesse Smith back for another year.

I'm hoping for the best but I can't be as optimistic as you are. To each their own.

Daniel Thomas reminds me of Troy Davis in some ways. Bad team, but a very good player. ISU should be able to beat them.

They beat UCLA who ain't bad on defense. I have a hard time seeing us winning this game but I hope we have some tricks up our sleeves, especially with a really depleted LB core. Who plays to help contain those running backs? If you aren't really concerned about out front 7 versus Thomas you aren't paying attention.

They were beat pretty handily by Standford who is back is decent but not any better than A-Rob. I Think as long as our offense can keep moving the ball and Linebackers keep Thomas in check we will be okay.

Well yeah, obviously if we play well offensively and our extremely young and ridiculously thin LB corps keeps one of the very best RBs in the nation in check.... yeah if that happens of course we will be fine. If it was only that easy to shut down an excellent running game.

I think the chances of our defense holding their running game (Thomas is great and their backup Powell is pretty good too) in check is very minimal. I'd be amazed and thrilled if we hold him under 150.

We can win this week, but we will definitely have to put up some points, and probably get a key turnover or two on defense. This is a tough game, if we win it will be a huge win.

With the exception of a couple of plays in the first game, A-Rob has been handled so far this year. Take out the long run his average must be scary. Let's hope that he is ticked off and ready to rumble this weekend. Its about time that he gets back to his old self!

Yeah, our interior run blocking has been awful, ARobs average, minus the TD is 2.827 yards/run. That is not going to get it done. We have been successful running to the edges, especially flipping out a quick pitch to ARob from the shotgun. I think we'll need to run to the outsides, run some WR screens maybe or just have a few early completions, then maybe the interior run game will open up.

First off, I'm not sure why you would take out a run. Did he not contribute that to the Cyclone rushing production? Does a run like that not affect how the defenders have to defend on future plays?

But if you want to play that game, add back in 11 yards for the play in the NIU game that was erroneously recorded as a pass. It is the play during the first drive right before Arnaud's called back long TD run. Arnaud throws a short (backwards) pitch from the 30 1/2 which ARob receives on the 30 yard line. It's really nothing more than a long handoff. He takes it around the left end for a gain of 11. (Anyone still have the game recorded that can verify? I watched it several times last night and it is clearly a lateral, not a pass.) If we play your game and take out the 63 yarder and make sure that he gets credit for all of his other runs, his average goes up to a more respectable 3.1 yards per carry. That's acceptable considering he faced a defense that is projected to be one of the tops against the run this year in one of those two games. If you leave in the 63 yarder he is at a solid 5.03 yards per carry.

I agree with you that getting him to the corner certainly would help as that 11 yard run demonstrated.

Well, I suppose arbitrarily editing the stats is one way to make your point. :twitcy:

Have you watched the two games that we have played so far?

We did less than anything against Iowa (and they do have an excellent defense, and they will stop people all year). But ARob had 98 yards against NIU, and 60+ came on ONE run.

The rest of the game he averaged about two yards a carry. That falls on the o-line. They have to get better, or we are looking at about 2 more wins this year.

Again, I will ask, what the hell have the strength people been doing with this team. They have looked pretty weak through two games.

And ARob got 4.4 yards per carry against Iowa. Which of his runs are we going to throw out of the that game?

Edit: I'm all for using stats to make a point, but why not use the stats that are there instead of creatively editing them?
