ISU Mens BBall practice w McDermott

What are they doing?!?! IS that DEFENSE I see them coaching?

Wesley Johnson is sooo long and lanky, he looks like a gumby doll that wont streach back to shape. I am wondering how much the scores will look like they did in the Floyd/LE days(45-43 points a game).
I know well start out with a decent record, i just dont want fans to get excited when we do, cause we probably wont play great in the conference. I see us start 10-3, then finish with about 15 wins.

Is the scoreboard new too? That's too cool...

Our height (or lack of) is a little scary. I hope Mike Smith (#52) can give some quality minutes. Who's going to step up while Taylor serves his suspension??

That is a truly wonderful sight! I'm trying to temper my enthusiasm, keeping in mind all the new faces, but seeing them work on fundamental stuff is really exciting. I'm a firm believer that good fundamentals are essential for long term success.

I remember doing that deny drill in HS. If the defender couldn't successfully deny the pass and the coach was able to get the ball to the offensive player, the defender had to run sprints!

I completely agree. 15 wins would probably constitute a great season given the circumstances. I am expecting great things in the future, but maybe two years or so away.

when i was watching the video i noticed the #1, and i started thinking. who is that? and i look at the roster, its dodie dunson, you know, i think alot of us forgot about him. and every one is worried about taylor and who will replace him.. first of all i think he is only out 4 sure the 1rst ex. game and the rest are pending on grades, and 2nd of all, we have guard depth when u think about it, we dont even know what these guys can do against real compition. so bas what i am saying, just sit back and enjoy and wait and see what these guys can do with ppl watching them against someone other then themselves

Wow, was that fundamentals being taught in practice we saw? I would be curious to see what a WM practice compared to a GMac practice looked like. If you are going to build a solid basketball program, you build it from the ground up by playing fundamentals and I think that is what we will see done. I don't want to be over-optimistic but I just have that much confidence in the players we brought in to go with a great coach that if they gel early things might not be as bad as some think it may be.

Six new coaches in the Big 12. OSU and KSU have some talent for their new coaches to work with, but so does ISU. Colorado had 10 seniors but still has Roby, but they also have Patton as coach and no bball tradition. There are 3 tough teams in the soutn, and KU in the north, but the lower 8 teams are all about equal. This is a down year for the Big 12, but I thing GMac & Co. will compete. I'm looking for 8-10 wins in the Big 12 and 10-3 non conference.

Don't start setting expectations of 8-10 wins already in the Big 12. Our non-conference record will probably be 10-3, but 5-6 conference wins with all new players and still no size would be a good year.

If you start out expecting 8-10 wins, your expectations will be disappointed. Just like football this year.

I wouldnt worry about heighth too much. Quickness and vertical jump can make up for it. When a tall player has the ball they tend to bring it down at some point which makes it easier for a defender to snatch it.

15 wins in bball would be lightyears ahead of expected 4 win season (Kansas game) in football. Go Hilton magic.
